A Victorian silver chatalaine clip by Gibson and Langman London 1894 with pierced foliate scroll and figural decoration with five hanging chains with various attachments by various makers including: a pin cushion wheel a locket a scent flask two pencils a pair of scissors in a sheath an egg shaped cotton reel holder and an aide memoire.
A 6 shot .36” Colt Model 1851 Navy percussion revolver, number 36848 on most parts (rammer numbered “2”, barrel wedge numbered 55318), London address and London proofs, naval scene on cylinder, varnished walnut grips. Good Working Order and Condition (well refinished overall with blued barrel and cylinder, colour hardened rammer and frame, and silver plated trigger guard and backstrap), in a refitted mahogany case, containing bag shaped copper flask by Hawksley, reproduction brass bullet mould, nipple key/turnscrew, and a cap tin. A good cased 5 shot 54 bore Tranter double action percusson revolver, 11” overall, barrel 6”, Birmingham proved, the frame stamped “W Tranter’s Patent” in oval and engraved “No 13715.T”, the rammer also stamped “W Tranter’s Patent”, chequered walnut butt. Very Good Working Order and Condition, retaining approximately 80% of original blued finish, in its original green baize lined fitted mahogany case with shaped brass escutcheon in the lid, containing plain bag shaped copper flask, double cavity brass mould, nipple key with pricker, pewter oil bottle, 2 percussion cap tins, etc. Good Condition Plate 29
A cased pair of 24 bore flintlock duelling pistols by Wogdon, 15½” overall, octagonal barrels 10” re-engraved “Wogdon London” in script and having silver fore sights and gold touch holes, flat stepped locks with swan neck cocks, the plates engraved “Wogdon” in script, walnut halfstocks with rounded chequered butts and GS fore end caps, barrel wedge plates and escutcheons, engraved steel trigger guards and ramrod pipes, single set triggers, brass mounted ramrods, one with concealed worm. Good Working Order and Condition, in their green baize lined fitted oak case with folding carrying handle in lid, containing an embossed copper fluted flask (seam split), a steel pincer 27 bore mould marked “WD”, an ebony loading/cleaning rod, and some flints. Originally dating from about 1785, these pistols appear to have been brought up to date at a later date with new stocks and ramrods. Plate 30
A rare and historically interesting garniture of 4 flintlock pistols, by Prosser, Charing Cross, London, c 1800, formerly the property of Capt John Sykes, Royal Navy, comprising a pair of 18 bore large travelling or small holster pistols, 9½” overall, flat topped round twist barrels 5”, the flat stepped locks with safety bolts through to the frizzens, swan neck cocks and rainproof pans, walnut fullstocks with typical Prosser flattened chequered butts with silver escutcheons engraved with the crest and initials of John Sykes, engraved steel mounts, and horn tipped ramrods, one with steel worm, also a pair of stubby 38 bore boxlock pocket pistols, 5½” overall, turn off barrels 1”, with London proofs, rainproof pans, rollers on frizzen springs, top safeties and hidden triggers, frames engraved with trophies and plain bag shaped walnut butts also with silver escutcheons engraved with the crest and initials of John Sykes. Both pairs of pistols in Good Working Order and generally quite crisp condition, the first retaining traces of original finish; in their original fitted oak case, the circular brass lid escutcheon with folding handle engraved “Capt. Sykes, Royal Navy”, the inside of the lid with trade label of “Prosser (late Cullum), Sword Cutler and Belt Maker to the King and HRH the Duke of York, No 9 Charing Cross, London”, containing a good red leather covered 3 way flask with compartment in the base for flints, 17 bore and 36 bore steel pincer moulds, wooden handled 2 way turnscrew, loading rod/mallet, wad punch, barrel key for the pocket pistols and a later cleaning rod. The whole in Good Condition. See front cover Note: Capt. John Sykes was the Commander of the naval sloop Nautilus which encountered the schooner Pickle conveying the news of the Battle of Trafalgar to England. On hearing the news he decided to inform the British Embassy in Lisbon. He then sailed for England sighting the Pickle again later. After encountering gales en route both ships eventually reached England. Lapenatiere, the Commander of Pickle reaching London with the news of the battle about an hour before Sykes. With the lot is sold a copy of the log book of His Majesty’s Ship Nautilus from 3rd April 1805 to 6th April 1806; also details of John Sykes naval service and biographical notes: retiring as Vice Admiral of the Blue 1848, Admiral 1855, Died 1858.
A silver spirit flask, London 1916, three silver Old English pattern dessert forks, London 1798, two silver napkin rings, three silver spoons, the silver mount from a walking stick and mostly plated wares, comprising; a rectangular hinge lidded box, mounted with a coin to the lid, two trophy cups and a spoon.
A gun size copper powder flask, overlaid with brass plaque embossed with dog and game bird beneath tree, the top marked “Dixon & Son, Improved Patent”. GC (minor damage, spring AF); a Western type open top leather holster and cartridge belt, the former stamped “Abercrombie & Fitch Co, New York”; and another open top leather holster. GC. (3)
