An Elizabeth II Captain’s uniform of The Blues and Royals (Royal Horse Guards and Royal Dragoons), comprising silver plated helmet, with gilt peak binding, ear to ear wreath, graduated link leather backed chinchain (slightly AF) and ear rosettes of regimental pattern, top mount with silver plated spike, scarlet yak hair plume with gilt rosette, gilt helmet plate with red and blue enamelled centre on silver plated cut star, buff leather lining, (few very small dents to skull); blue tunic with scarlet facings and edging, heavily gilt embroidered collar and cuffs, gilt shoulder cords and aiguilette with tags; gilt lace shoulder belt with scarlet morocco backing, central stripe and flask cord, ornamental gilt buckle, tip and slide, black plastic panels with gilt mounts and Royal Arms flap badge; plated cuirass, brass edge binding and studs, shoulder scales with ornamental studs and lion’s head finials, red leather lining with crimson velvet edging; pair buff leather breeches; pair black leather jack boots, nickel plated spurs with buckles and chains. An Indian horn powder flask in the form of a fish, 7½” overall, upper body covered with bone panels secured by pegs, lower part covered with dark stained bone, whole engraved with lozenge shaped panels containing crosses and circles, and with horn mouth, eyes and tail, mouth also formed to hold the stopper. Good Condition, (small repairs to tail, stopper and hanging rings missing). Plate 29
A cased 5 shot 120 bore Adams Model 1851 self cocking percussion revolver, 9” overall, barrel 4½” with London proofs and engraved “Deane Adams & Deane, 30 King William Stt. London Bridge”; frame engraved with scrolls and “Adams’ Patent No 11,059R”, cylinder also engraved “No 11,059R”; the finely chequered walnut butt with rayed oval German silver cap. Good Working Order and Clean Condition, frame and barrel retaining 90% of original mirror blued finish (patch of moderate pitting to cylinder, small chip to butt); in a later fitted green baize lined mahogany box with brass lid escutcheon, containing a fluted copper flask (top retaining screws missing), cleaning rod, and pewter oil bottle (box lid scratched). A cased double barrelled 16 bore flintlock sporting gun by W Clark, London c 1820, 47½” overall, rebrowned twist barrels 32” with gold maker’s poincons at breeches, locks with French style cocks, rainproof pans, and roller on frizzen springs, the plates engraved with game birds and maker’s name; walnut halfstock with chequered wrist and steel mounts including large trigger guard for use with gloves, engraved with game birds and with pineapple finial. Good Working Order and Condition, the locks quite crisp (with replacement ramrod); in a refitted and relined oak case with trade label of W. Clark (probably a reproduction), containing a bag shaped copper flask by Sykes (dented), later powder and shot measures, a 2 piece cleaning rod, a reproduction double ended measure, and a separate compartment for the detached locks. A 5 shot .36” Manhatten Navy percussion revolver, 10” overall, barrel 5” marked “Manhatten Fire Arms Co. Newark N.J.”, number 27808, cylinder engraved with scenes in oval panels, and stamped “Patented Dec 27 1859”, with silver plated brass trigger guard and backstrap and polished walnut grips. Good Working Order and Condition (slight wear to trigger guard plating and very minor pitting to barrel); in a fitted mahogany box with a good embossed copper pistol flask, “Stag’s head and oak leaves” (Riling 562 or 563), a reproduction double cavity brass mould, and a centre fire cap tin. A good cased 5 shot 54 bore Beaumont Adams percussion revolver, the top strap engraved “Robert Adams, 76 King William Street, London”, the frame engraved “B 20,662 Adams’ Patent 36,432R”, the cylinder also numbered “36,432R”, with London proofs and L.A.C. mark. Good Working Order and Condition, retaining approximately 60% of original deep mirror blued finish (some staining to trigger guard and butt cap); in its original green baize lined fitted oak case, with Robert Adams trade label (worn), plain bag shaped copper flask by Dixon, double cavity 54 bore bronze mould, cleaning rod, nipple key with pricker, screwdriver, pewter oil bottle, and a 16 bore wad punch. Good Condition (slight damage to lid of case which is also slightly warped, key hole escutcheon and key missing). Plate 74
A cased double barrelled 10 bore percussion sporting gun, by Pritchard, Birmingham, number 1089, 46” overall, professionally rebrowned damascus barrels 30” with brass poincon at breech (stamped “Warranted”?), top rib re-engraved “William Pritchard No 14 Bull Ring, Birmingham”; back action locks engraved with scrolls and “Pritchard”; walnut halfstock with chequered wrist, engraved German silver throat pipe, underside of the butt inlaid with a silver game dog, and with scroll engraved steel trigger guard and butt plate. Good Working Order and Condition; in its blue velvet lined fitted brass bound mahogany case, the lid with folding brass handle and inlaid with thin brass lined panel, containing a shaped embossed copper flask “Hunter and Dog” (Riling 927), and “T” shaped steel nipple key with pricker and compartments for spare nipples. Generally Clean Condition (some age splits to lid). Plate 75

Richards Birm”, un-named scroll engraved locks with distinctive dolphin head hammers; walnut halfstock with chequered fore-end and wrist, scroll engraved steel mounts, and replacement brass mounted ramrod. Good Working Order and Condition (some wear commensurate with use); in a good brass bound oak case with folding handle in the lid and with trade label of E. Baker, 24 Whitechapel Road, describing how he has opened a proof house on his own premises for the re-proofing of firearms of all descriptions, and containing a pigskin covered flask by Sykes, a leather shot flask embossed with hunter on horseback (worn), two 3 piece cleaning rods, a wad punch, etc. Good Condition (slight damage to trade label). Good Working Order and Condition, retaining traces of original blued finish; in its original green baize lined fitted mahogany case with circular brass escutcheon in lid and Wilkinson & Son trade label, containing double cavity 54 bore bronze mould stamped “Tranters Patent”, bag shaped copper flask by Hawksley, with original lacquered finish, brass mounted cleaning rod, ebony handled turnscrew, Joyce cap tin with labels, and Hawksley pewter oil bottle (minor damage to case, no key). A good cased pair of 28 bore percussion duelling pistols by J W Edge, Manchester, 13½” overall, heavy deeply browned octagonal twist barrels 8¼” engraved “Manchester” in Gothic script and with rearsight on breech tangs; flat bolted locks with foliate engraved plates and hammers and “J W Edge” in Gothic script; nicely figured and polished halfstocks with deeply chequered butts, silver fore-end caps and barrel wedge plates (heavily tarnished), silver escutcheon engraved with initials, engraved steel trigger guards with pineapple finials, and horn tipped ramrods with concealed brass worms. Good Working Order and generally crisp Condition, (minor wear and bruising to stocks); in their fitted brass bound mahogany case with folding handle in lid, containing 3 way oval section copper and brass flask, 30 bore steel pincer ball mould, nipple key with pricker, loading/cleaning rod (brass attachments missing), two good old cap tins with printed labels, and another tin. In generally Very Good Condition (the case damaged where the lock has been forced). Plate 90
A cased pair of continental 42 bore percussion duelling pistols c 1860, 16” overall, browned octagonal twist barrels 10” with fine multigroove rifling, tangs with block rearsight; the back action locks and rounded hammers engraved with simple scrolled foliage, and with single set triggers; black stained wood halfstocks with shell carved fore-ends and chequered butts with flared and carved finials; mounts of engraved steel, including spurred trigger guards. Good Working Order and Condition, (one butt slightly chipped); in their close fitted brown velvet lined oil cloth covered case with brass corners and leather covered carrying handles, containing small white metal flask embossed with stylised bush, steel pincer ball mould, turnscrew/nipple key, circular brass cap dispenser, brass loading rod, cleaning rod, large ebony loading mallet and turned horn cap box. A very complete set (case worn externally, 2 brass corners detached but present, name plate missing from lid). Plate 92

Good Working Order and Condition (one tumbler screw head detached but present, the trigger guards well reblued); in their original green baize lined fitted brass bound mahogany case, with folding handle in the lid and with good trade label of “Joseph Manton, Gun Maker, Davies Street, Berkeley Square, London”, containing 28 bore steel pincer mould, 3 way copper and brass flask with screw base, and later turnscrew and cleaning rod.
