A Cased Six-shot 80-bore Self-cocking Wedge Frame Percussion Revolver by Moore & Harris. Circa 1845. 4N" mirror blued octagonal rifled barrel. London proved. Top strap engraved in gothic script ‘Moore & Harris Gun Makers St. Mary s Sqre Birmingham’. Colour case-hardened under lever rammer and open frame with foliate engraved borders. Colour case-hardened cylinder foliate engraved to front with numbered chambers. Blued sprung hammer safety catch shell engraved butt-cap two-piece finely chequered walnut grip. Retains virtually all its original finish. In its green baize lined fitted oak case with printed trade label of Moore & Harris containing patent top adjustable copper powder flask by Sykes retaining nearly all original finish 80-bore brass bullet mould with steel sprue cutter marked ‘80. W.D’ (William Davis) wooden cleaning rod with worm and 3. assorted screw on brass heads Sykes pewter oil bottle cap tin and 2. japanned boxes with Moore & Harris embossed labels inscribed ‘Lubricating Cones No 80’ Brass escutcheon to lid.
A Very Rare Cased Six-shot 54-bore Model 1866. J. Adams Percussion Revolver 6" sighted octagonal barrel engraved ‘Adams s Patent Small Arms Company 391. Strand London’ rammer mounted beneath plain cylinder frame engraved ‘Adams s Patent Improved no.23’ chequered one piece wood grips. In its baize lined fitted oak case with adjustable copper bodied powder flask by James Dixon cleaning rod nipple wrench with integral pricker pewter oil bottle by James Dixon turned boxwood container for spare nipples and a lacquered tin with the remains of an Eley Brothers label containing lubricant brass escutcheon to lid with partly erased inscription ‘To [name erased] in remembrance of Trinity College Cambridge’. The gun retains virtually all its original blue finish. Percussion revolvers by John Adams brother of Robert are rarely encountered although they formed the basis of the centre fire revolver adopted by the British Army in 1867.
A Very Rare Cased Five-shot 80-bore Self-cocking Open Frame Westley Richards Patent Side-hammer Percussion Revolver Number 168. 4D" octagonal barrel engraved ‘Westley Richards 170. New Bond St London (Patentee)’. Barrel and top strap secured to axis pin and frame by turning catches. Foliate and border engraved frame and furniture hinged trap in butt engraved ‘H. Walford’ sliding hammer blocking gravity safety with platinum weight. One piece chequered walnut grip. In its green baize lined partitioned oak case with printed trade label giving users instructions. Cased with common topped copper powder flask pewter oil bottle by G & JW Hawksley 3. cavity brass round ball mould with steel sprue cutter marked ‘WR’ combined steel nipple key and rammer ebony cleaning rod/rammer with separate brass jag leather nipple wallet numbered to the pistol containing 5. spare nipples and a cloth drawstring bag for percussion caps with Westley Richards trade label. Barrel retains 60% original blue finish and frame retains a high percentage of faded colour case-hardening.
A Rare Five-shot 54-bore Adams Model 1851. Self-cocking Percussion Revolver. Number 2238T. Length over all 11I" 6I" barrel engraved on top strap ‘Reilly Oxford Street London’ frame engraved ‘Adams Patent No 2238T’ and with foliate scrolls the cylinder also engraved ‘No 2238T’ chequered walnut grip in its original green baize lined fitted oak case with trade label double cavity bronze bullet mould with blue steel sprue cutter stamped ‘Reilly Oxford St London’ patent topped adjustable copper powder flask by James Dixon nipple key with integral pricker rosewood cleaning rod with rammer / worm / jag pewter oil bottle and leather drawstring bag of bullets with wads attached marked ‘REILLY NEW OXFORD ST. LONDON’. Retains virtually all its original blue finish to barrel frame and trigger guard including colour case-hardening to cylinder and butt-cap Note: Frame made by Tranter as for his 1st Model. The set in superb condition retains virtually all its original finish.
