A CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE PORCELAIN MOON FLASK, BIANPING, MING OR QING DYNASTY. Well potted with a visible horizontal joining line within the domed body. With a bulb like neck with twin strap handles on a rectangular foot. Decorated in underglaze blue with bands of floral scrolls with large roundels of floral decoration with a Yinyang symbol. Six-character mark of Xuande near rim. 30cm tall. Chip loss to corner of foot rim. Small shallow chip to rim with minor fritting to edges. No signs of repair.

Four Chinese blue and white prunus blossom ginger jars, 20th century, three with dentil band to the rim, the fourth with toothed band to the rim and cover, two with double concentric rings to base, one with four character mark, 4in. to 5¼in. (10.1cm. to 13.3cm.) high; together with a small blue and whikte moon flask, with twin dragon handles, painted with dragons chasing a flaming pearl, 6 5/8in. (16.8cm.) high, faults. (5) The ginger jars in good condition, with no faults. Three lack the cover. The moon flask has losses to both handles.

Two other virtually identical wine glasses are recorded, suggesting that this may have once been part of an original set. One was sold by Sotheby's on 1 November 1982, lot 38 and is now in the Laing Art Gallery (inv. no.F6317), illustrated by L M Bickerton, Eighteenth Century English Drinking Glasses (1986), p.332, no.1079. The other was in the Hamilton Clements Collection, illustrated by Francis Buckley, A History of Old English Glass (1925), pl.XXXV and sold by Sotheby's on 15 May 1930, then again as part of the Henry Brown Collection on 14 November 1947, lot 255.An example with a different wildfowling scene is illustrated by Martine Newby, Eighteenth Century English Glass from the Collection of Julius and Ann Kaplan (1998), p.12, fig.3 and was sold by Bonhams on 15 November 2017, lot 25.
