A rare Indo-Persian powder-flask (wootz) of watered steel,18th/early 19th Century with pod-shaped body joined by a brass seam, decorated on each side with a vertical arrangement of three cartouche-shaped panels and a stylised flower, fitted with a pierced loop for suspension, with no provision for a cut-off, and retaining some of its watered pattern throughout 25cm; 9.875in Powder-flasks of this form are frequently encountered in painted leather and hide; examples in watered steel are notably rare.

A rare pair of Swiss percussion pistols by Johann Muller in Bern,circa 1840-50 with earlier Neapolitan smooth-bored sighted barrels formed in two stages with chiselled girdle between, swamped towards the muzzles, the breeches inlaid with a series of decorative gold-lined marks enclosing a pair of gold-lined Neapolitan manufactory stamps (Neue Stockel 817 and 814), and retaining most of their early charcoal twist finish, case-hardened breeches with gold-lined maker's stamps of J.Muller a Berne, plain case-hardened breech tangs, signed border-engraved case-hardened locks, highly figured walnut full stocks, chequered butts, plain blued steel mounts, case-hardened trigger-plates with pineapple finial, steel belt hooks, horn fore-end caps, white metal escutcheons, original horn-tipped wooden ramrods, and much original finish: in original lined and fitted oak case (the compartments with minor shrinkage and border wear), the lid with trade label of Johan Muller, Buchsenmacher in Bern, and retaining almost its full original compliment of accessories (the powder measure perhaps associated), including a fine embossed copper flask signed 'B a P', for Michel Boche, Paris, circa 1830 35cm; 13.75in

A Meissen Hausmaler flask and stopper circa 1720-30 decorated in Augsburg, in the manner of Abraham Seuter, the square-section body with four quatrelobe cartouches enclosing chinoiserie scenes, all depicting scenes of a tea ceremony, the cartouches also enclosed by gilt scrollwork, the chained stopper later faintly visible lustre mark 3M height without stopper 16cm., 6.25in. neck restored, some rubbing to gilding Square-sectioned flasks such as the present lot are of considerable rarity; a pair decorated in underglaze-blue with scrollwork and with chinoiseries in the manner of Stadler, formerly in the collection of C.H. Fischer, Dresden, was sold by Sotheby's London, 2nd March 1994, lot 12 (also published by K.Berling, Das Meissner Porzellan (1900), fig.179).
