A very scarce cased pair of flintlock pistols by Joseph Manton, dating: circa 1800, provenance: London, dating: circa 1800, provenance: London, Octagonal, rifled, burnished, damasked, 12 mm cal. barrels, base with a frame, vent and mark 'JOSEPH MANTON PATENT' (Stoeckel Nr. 7855) in gold, fore-sight; tangs finely engraved with trophies with shields decorated with Union Jack; locks of the same high quality signed 'JOSEPH MANTON LONDON', engraved with quiver, floral motifs and frames, provided with anti-friction system, sealing and safety lock; wooden, half stocks with checkered butt with horn fore-end cap, iron mounts with beautiful engravings in Imperial style. Horn-tipped, wooden ramrods and iron cartridge extractors. In their original wooden case with brass mounts, foldaway handle, lined with green cloth, 'Joseph Manton No. 11 Hanover Square Gun Maker to His Majesty Dues of York, Cambridge & Gloucester - Patentee for the New Detonating Guns, Self Fluming Flint Locks & Gravitating Stops.' label on the cover.
