5 pairs of hammer gun locks, with hammers, including a pair by William Powell & Son; 5 pairs without hammers; 4 incomplete single locks; 2 lock plates; 2 hammers; the cut down stock and action of a Continental rim fire garden gun; and a rigid leather shot flask; contained in a wooden box. Generally GC (some locks lightly pitted)
A pair of good quality 55 bore percussion boxlock sidehammer pistols, by Manton (Joseph 3?), 7½” overall, octagonal twist barrels 3” with B’ham proofs and engraved ‘Manton’ in gothic script, the muzzles with band of fern tip engraving, and with swivel ramrod beneath; finely scroll engraved frames and hammers, the top straps incorporating a rear sight (but no foresights); with hidden triggers, finely chequered rounded walnut butts, the oval escutcheons engraved with a crest, and with domed GS butt caps engraved with an oak wreath around the hinged trap, which is engraved with a feline mask. VGWO & crisp condition, with traces of original finish overall; contained in a dark purple velvet lined associated fitted mahogany case with brass bound corners, the lid with small Manton trade label (probably spurious), containing a bag shaped copper flask (slightly worn and dented), an 80 bore steel pincer mould, a hexagonal striker key, a brass oil bottle, a cap tin, and some lead balls. Generally GC (lining worn, case lid warped). Plate 10
A George III tortoiseshell and silver pique etui case, with decorative foliate swagged detail, containing a faceted glass scent flask, a pair of scissors, two further tools, a replacement two fold bone rule/tablet and a replacement mother of pearl handled quill knife, height of case 9cm, width across the top of the hinged lid 4cm, S/D.
A Victorian Silver Spirit-Flask, by William Gibson and John Lawrence Langman, London, 1893, oblong and with one canted corner, with bayonet-mounted cover, 13.5cm high, 7oz . Fully marked on side and on canted corner. There is some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. There are some bruises, most obvious being one on the base.
