A Victorian cut glass silver mounted hip flask by George Edwin Walton, Birmingham 1896, of rounded rectangular form with hobnail decoration, with silver bayonet clasp cover and detachable stirrup cup, 12.4cm longCondition Report; Overall good. Some small chips and abrasions to the facet edges of the hobnail decoration (largest of which is pictured). There is some abrasion to the glass around the opening (pictured). No other cracks, breakages or damage to the glass.The cover shows moderate denting, scratching and wear commensurate with age and use. There is some signs of thinning and loss, and possible signs of solder repair (see pictures for illustration). Bayonet mechanism is working correctly, however the cover is slightly wobbly/loose. The cork is present but heavily worn, and there is a small cork piece loose in the flask (as pictured).Moderate amount of small dents to the cup, moderate scratching and wear to the exterior and to the gilt interior. No splitting or signs of repair.
The Officer's field campaign camping kit used by RAFO Squadron Leader J. W. Morison (192123) during the Second World War comprising an enamel chamberstick, a bath basin/bucket with folding stand, folding chair, folding cot with a sleeping bag, RAF Aircrew Thermos flask and two kit hold-alls, individually named and numbered. Squadron Leader Morison served as an engineer with the Administrative and Special Services Branch. During World War II, he served in Shropshire with the Royal Air Force establishing, maintaining and operating the various airfields in the county. He also served in the Far East (Burma) in a similar role and married in Singapore shortly after hostilities had ceased. Mr Morison went on to successfully deliver many other engineering projects around the world in both public and private service. He was awarded the M.B.E in 1960 for his work in power engineering and retired in the 1970s. Service history: Served at Area H.Q. Market Drayton Dec. 1938-April 1941; Commissioned Squadron Leader in R.A.F.O (192123) for duties in Ceylon and Malaya, August 1945. Ceylon Area H.Q. Aug. 1945 - Sept. 1945;" Singapore/Malaya Area H.Q Sept. 1945 - Sept. 1948. Also served in Voluntary Services, 1938-1941 L.D.V.'s, 1943-1945 Fire, 1956-1960 Cyprus Police.
A PAIR OF CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE 'PEACH' MOONFLASKS, BAOYUEPING 19TH CENTURY With compressed circular bodies, each moulded with peach-shaped panels to the principal sides, painted with scenes of bats in flight amongst fruiting peach branches, the designs surrounded by continuous scrolls of flowering lotus, with bands of lingzhi to the sides, each surmounted by a short waisted neck flanked by two applied strap handles terminating in moulded ruyi-heads, with six character Daoguang marks to the bases, 24.8cm. A CHINESE BRONZE WINE FLASK HAN DYNASTY The compressed oval body surmounted by a short waisted neck, with two stylised mythical beast masks suspending loose rings to the ends, all raised on a gently flaring rectangular foot, 30.5cm across, 3.2kg. A beautiful glass flask with a spherical body with an attractive rainbow iridescence, a flaring cylindrical neck decorated with ribbed incisions, and a wide mouth with a slightly everted rim. Good condition. While glass-making had been practised for centuries, the Romans invented the glassblowing technique in the 1st century BC, which revolutionized this craft. Roman glassmakers reached incredible artistic heights with both free-blown vessels and mould blown forms and decorations. A beautiful colourless with green tinge glass flask with a spherical body, a long, flaring cylindrical neck, and a wide mouth encircled by a thin blue-coloured, spiral trail that descends along the top part of the neck. Excellent condition. Flasks such as this one were used in Roman times to serve liquids and archaeological excavations show that they had an Empire-wide distribution. By the Late Roman period (4th-5th century AD), good quality glass tableware such as this one were less common and could have been used as a showpiece and perhaps even as an indicator of social standing or wealth within the Late Roman household, especially when displayed in the public area of the house.
