1899 American Electric Vehicle Co. A miniature 8pp brochure with an orange card cover advertising the 'The 20th Century Movement', being electric-powered vehicles, including the 'Runabout' and Brougham. Together with four extra illustrated handbills and three press cuttings. Also, The Tripler & Liquid Air & Power Company Ltd. A suite of documents relating to this unusual and ill-fated Boston (USA) company, which proposed powering automobiles with 'Liquid Air', in fact air that has been lowered to cryogenic temperatures condensing it into a mobile liquid and protected from room temperature in a vacuum insulated flask. The c1900 period documents include an explanation of its use in a vehicle, share prospects and leaflets. All in fine condition (15)
*Duelling Pistols. A fine cased pair of flintlock saw-handled duelling pistols by William Parker, 233 High Holborn, London circa 1815, the 25.5cm octagonal barrel engraved 'W. Parker Holborn London', gold line inlay near the foliate engraved tang and gilded sight, side lock signed 'W. Parker', push safety catch, three quarter walnut stock with chequered grip inset with oval silver plaque bearing the same initials as the case, long spurred trigger guard with ramrod, 41cm long overall, in mahogany box, the lid inset with a circular brass name plate engraved with initials and recessed handle, the hinged lid enclosing green baize, gunsmiths trade label to inner lid, and various accessories including a copper and brass pistol flask 12cm long, turn screw and bullet mould, one with replacement ramrod William Parker (1790-1841), produced guns at 233 High Holborn from 1793-1839, Parker was Gunmaker to the Duke of Kent, Prince Edward and King William IV. Victorian percussion Pepperbox revolver by George William Bales, Ipswich circa 1840, the 7.5cm six-shot barrel with various proof marks, German silver casing engraved with foliate scrolls and signed GW Bales, Ipswich, the other side engraved 'Improved Revolving Pistol', engraved percussion hammer, trigger guard and backstrap, the walnut stock inset with engraved studs, 20.5cm long overall, in a fine mahogany case with brass name plate and corners, the hinged lid enclosing fitted interior with various accessories including copper and brass pistol flask by Sykes with sprung nozzle and pivotal base for two measures, 8cm long, two turnscrews, shot mould and percussion caps in lacquered tin, the inner lid of the box with original gunsmiths trade label, 6cm high x 26.5cm wide x 16cm deep George William Bales, Ipswich, Suffolk, 1838-70. A 19th century French Officers percussion pistol by J Manceaux, Paris, the 23.5cm octagonal sighted barrel retaining some twist figuring, three quarter walnut stock the side lock signed 'J. Manceaux A Paris', the other side inlaid with an oval silver plaque engraved 'Le Ministre de la guerre a Jean Cabrie Capitaine d artillerie Novembre 1856', with spurred trigger guard and rounded butt with lanyard ring, 38.5cm long overall, concealed in the secret compartment of a Victorian brass-bound writing slope, the drawer with various accessories including a copper and brass powder flask with three stage nozzle, the body with a hunting scene and the base with hinged percussion cap compartment, 22.5cm long, turnscrew, bullet mould and other items, box measures 17cm high x 51cm wide x 26cm deep (1)
A late 19th century Chinese porcelain moon flask, painted in underglaze blue with figural scene to both sides within foliate decorated border and decorative bands, with stylised dragon handles, unmarked, height 21cm (af). CONDITION REPORT: There is a hole to the upper section of one of the panels with a few hairline cracks spreading from it, areas of firing imperfections.
