a fine pair of 16-bore percussion duelling pistols by Nixon of Newark, circa 1850, 9.25 inch octagonal browned barrel with damascus twist figuring engraved NIXON. GUN MAKER, NEWARK case hardened foliate scrolls to the breech and tang, dolphin hammer, the side lock engraved NIXON, NEWARK with push-on safety, trigger guard and pineapple finial, figured half walnut stock with chequered rounded butt, vacant silver coloured metal escutcheon, steel tipped ebony ramrod, 15.75 inches overall. Contained in a period brass bound mahogany case, with recessed carrying handle, the hinged lid enclosing fitted compartments lined with green baize, containing some accessories including bright steel oil bottle and Dixon pistol flask.
