Tribal Art - Fernando Po Island (Bioko), a collection of baskets, combs, gourds, a carved wood label, a carved wood bell with incised decoration, two small squares of wood, one of which with applied ink inscribed label "Piece of Wood from Mission House, Fernando Po West Africa**" the damage of the native ants R.W. Burnett, knitted shell bands, native shells, manilla, snake skins, a carved stone axe head and the Reverends silver mounted parasol and walking stick etc. NOTE: The vendors great grandfather The Rev R.W. Burnett (1842-1902) sailed to Fernando Po on June 25th 1870 on "The Pioneer", his wife suffered with a fever and had to return to England with the children, at his own expense he returned with her and then later returned to Africa. She later joined him, however the children remained in England. He was the first Missionary in Fernando Po to record the language of the natives and produced a book of his research.
A collection of six 19th century Staffordshire figures, huntsman, shepherds, etc. Tallest 19 cm. CONDITION REPORT: All of these figures have issues. The tallest has numerous breaks to the bocage and has been broken into several pieces. There is crude restoration and overpainting. The Scottish huntsman has been broken at the gun stock and top of the arm and is also missing the barrel from the gun. There is also a chip to the plume on the hat. The shepherd group has restoration to the bocage, the arm, the crook and the hand. There are also numerous nibbles and chips to the bocage and all of the sheep. The pair of figures marked to the rear “Walton” both have issues. The female figure has repairs to the bocage and losses. The male figure is in better condition although it does also have losses to the bocage. The walking stick is also broken and partially missing. The dog group has had a break. All figures have numerous small chips and all have various repairs.
