A George III mahogany cased stick barometer by Fraser of Bond Street, London, the bow fronted case with silvered dial and urn shaped bell 100 cm high CONDITION REPORTS Areas of moulding missing throughout especially to the shoulder and pediment, discoloration and fading throughout the wood, heavy scratching. A break in previous repair to the cup at the bottom. Possible section missing to the brass screw at base, mercury is broken, face is pitted and worn. Back has clearly been damaged and repaired. Wear and tear conducive with age and use if not a bit more. See images for more details.
An early 19th Century ash and elm West Country childs stick back chair 51cm high CONDITION REPORTS The chair has evidence of old woodworm throughout. Numerous gouges, chips, scratches, scuffs throughout. Discolouration and fading. The back stretcher has a break. All legs have been cut down at some stage and part of the X stretcher has snapped and been selotaped together. There is a large split to one side of the wooden seat just above the leg. General wear and tear commensurate with age and use. See photos for more details.
EDWARD VIII: (1894-1972) King of the United Kingdom January - December 1936. Later Duke of Windsor. A good vintage signed 8 x 11.5 photograph, the Hugh Cecil image of London depicting the Duke of Windsor standing in a formal three quarter length pose. Signed `Edward´, as Prince of Wales, in bold black fountain pen ink to a partially dark area to the lower right corner of the image, adding the date, 1927, in his own hand. To the verso bearing a printed stick, stating it is a portrait by Hugh Cecil, numbered, and a 12mo printed card stating “H.R.H. The Prince of Wales K.G. - to Alderman Herbert Hicks J.P - in remembrance of H.R.H´s visit to Sandwich during his Mayoralty. Christmas 1927.” Matted to the photographer slightly larger mount, to an overall of 10 x 13.5. VG £400-600
[GORDON CHARLES GEORGE]: (1833-1885) British Army officer, known as Chinese Gordon. Unusual Chinese contemporary envelope, hand addressed to Charles George Gordon, in Chinese characters. The document bears a red paper stick, affixed all along the envelope centre, and states to the front cover `Your distinguished country - Gordon´s arrangement petition - Message to Colonel Gordon to implore for his respect - To remain honest and poor, to obey and worship your family´ in Chinese characters. Also written in another hand `Colonel Gordon´. Overall age wear. F £100-150
