Middleton & Sons, Sheffield, the 8.75in clipped back blade, engraved and inscribed `THE UNITED STATES the land of the free and the HOME OF THE BRAVE, PROTECTED BY HER NOBLE AND BRAVE VOLUNTEERS` and `AMERICANS ask for nothing but what is RIGHT, and suspect to nothing that is WRONG`, the reverse stamped `HAND FORGED`, to an antler handle and horse`s head nickel terminal, leather scabbard, together with a sword stick with a bun handle and metal bands. Diyatalawa was a garrison town in the central highland of Sri Lanka (Ceylon). Prisoners of the Boer Wars were imprisoned here.
