It originally came from the Nag's Head Public House, known locally as the ‘Half Way House’ as it stood on the Ware road, halfway between Hertford and Ware. The current owner’s great-grandfather was the proprietor and landlord of the Nag's Head at the end of the 19th century and left it to his son, who took over as landlord before the turn of the 20th century. When he retired, he took the barometer with him, eventually passing it to his daughter who passed it on to her son, the current owner.
