Known as stick boxes, these boxes were passed down through the family with each generation in the Thar desert area of West Rajasthan and were used as dowry chests. Tribes people of this area made these boxes from sticks harvested from the Kair tree, Capparis decidua. The sticks are rivoted together with hand wrought iron fittings to make a very strong box. Small opening on the top of the piece. Size: 55 x 28 1/4 x 37 in.
