1994 Honda CBR900RR Fireblade 'Urban Tiger'Registration no. L235 GVHFrame no. SC28-2250393Engine no. SC28E-2250390• Genuine UK 'Urban Tiger'• Restored (engine excepted) by Jap Retro• Stored since the rebuild's completionEvery so often a model comes along that rewrites the rulebook for sports motorcycles, one of the most influential of modern times being Honda's Fireblade. Launched in 1992, the Fireblade blew away the opposition – principally Yamaha's FZR1000 and Suzuki's GSX-R1100 - with its combination of litre-bike performance and a 600-sized package. Sure, it might have been a little down in the horsepower stakes when compared to the opposition, but the 'Blade more than made up for that by being some 30-plus kilos lighter. Superbly styled and evocatively titled, it was recognised as a future classic almost immediately, and early and unmolested examples command high prices today. Progressively developed, the Blade has occasionally fallen behind the opposition, but today's version is back at the top of the tree, being recognised as one of the fastest of the current crop of hyper-sports roadsters. There have been countless colour schemes applied to the Fireblade over the years, one of the most iconic from the 1990s being the 'Urban Tiger', as seen here. Currently displaying a total of 45,131 miles on the odometer, this UK-market Fireblade is a genuine 'Urban Tiger', not a copy. The machine has been fully stripped and rebuilt (engine excluded) with everything that needed replacing being replaced. Notable features include a full repaint (including the wheels) and a full Yoshimura exhaust system. All the restoration work was carried out by Jap Retro. Apart from a solitary test ride, when it was found to run and ride 'spot on', the Honda has not been ridden since completion. The rebuild is fully documented by images on a memory stick, which prospective purchasers may view on request. There is also a video of the machine running, available to view on the Bonhams website. Accompanying documents include a V5C, an MoT certificate (expired 2019), and a 2020 HPI check report. One key present.Footnotes:All lots are sold 'as is/where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com
1989 Suzuki GSX-R750 SlingshotRegistration no. G79 UMTFrame no. GR77A-105737Engine no. R707-107644• Professionally restored by Jap Retro circa five years ago• Only some 200 miles since completion• Stored as part of a private collectionSuzuki rewrote the 750-class rulebook when it launched the GSX-R750 back in 1985. The Gixxer's development had been heavily influenced by lessons learned from the works TT F1 and Endurance racers; lighter than a 600 and as powerful as a 1000, it made all other super-sports 750s seem flabby and slow. Like its predecessor, this new-for-1988 second generation GSX-R benefited from experience gained in racing, featuring a much stiffer frame and swinging arm; larger-diameter forks; larger front brakes; 4-pot brake callipers; 17' wheels; and a more aerodynamically efficient fairing. The engine had a shorter stoke; bigger valves; larger oil radiator; 4-into-2 exhaust system; and 36mm flat-slide 'Slingshot' carburettors that gave the model its nickname. One of the modern era's few instant classics, the GSX-R750 has been a huge commercial success for Suzuki and enjoys cult status today. Now more than 30 years old, many early GSX-Rs have suffered at the hands of successive owners, a state of affairs that has resulted in well preserved examples becoming increasingly sought after by collectors. A UK market example, this GSX-R750 Slingshot has been professionally restored (engine excepted) by Jap Retro, with everything done that was required. The following works were carried out:Frame and cycle parts, blasted and powder-coatedWheels, blasted and powder-coated; new bearings and tyres Tank and bodywork stripped/blasted and repainted with new decalsEngine fully serviced and refreshed; paint stripped/cleaned and repaintedCarburettors stripped cleaned and rebuilt with new kitsBraking system fully stripped/cleaned, repainted and rebuilt with new kits and HEL brake linesAll bearings and cables replacedThe machine has only covered some 200 miles following the rebuild's completion approximately five years ago, since when it has been stored as part of the vendor's private collection (the current odometer reading is 39,959 miles). The vendor reports that engine pulls strongly with no issues. The restoration is fully documented by images on a memory stick, which prospective purchasers may view on request. There is also a video of the machine running, available to view on the Bonhams website. Included in the sale is a rear cowl, pillion seat and grab rail. Accompanying documents include a V5C, two MoT certificates (most recent expired 2019) and a 2015 R.A.P. Superbikes sales receipt, while it should be noted that the HPI report records the previous colour as black/grey. Four keys present.Footnotes:All lots are sold 'as is/where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com
1986 Kawasaki GPZ1000RX A1Registration no. C202 DNWFrame no. ZXT00A-010367Engine no. ZXT00AE016703• Professionally restored by Jap Retro• Only a couple of hundred miles since the rebuild• Stored as part of a private collectionKawasaki followed up its trend-setting GPz900R Ninja superbike of 1984 with the GPZ1000RX. Introduced in the autumn of 1985, Kawasaki's new flagship sports bike boasted an engine stretched to a full one litre together with a new wrap-around steel perimeter frame complete with aluminium swinging arm and Unit-Trak rear suspension. The latter had been carried over in modified form from the GPz900R, as was the air-damped front fork and anti-dive brakes. Rubber mounted in the chassis rather than a stressed member as it had been in the '900', the heavily revised engine now produced 125bhp, an increase of 13 horsepower over the smaller GPz. Sixteen-inch wheels were fitted at both ends, the rear shod with a massive (for the time) 150/80 section tyre. Wrapped around the new frame was a larger, more smoothly contoured fairing with integrated indicators, bungee hooks and passenger grab rail, its superior aerodynamics, and those extra horses, enabling the GPZ1000RX comfortably to exceed its predecessor's top speed of around 150mph despite a slight gain in weight. But while the iconic GPz900R would live on in the Kawasaki range until 1997, the GPZ1000RX lasted only a couple of years before being superseded by the ZX10. Today it is one of the rarest of the big Kawasakis. The fastest production bike of 1986, this first-generation A1 model was acquired by our vendor a few years ago in running condition and without excessive mileage (32,528 at time of cataloguing). He wanted to return the machine to 'as new' condition so entrusted it to a professional restoration company (Jap Retro) for a total, 'last-nut-and-bolt' strip and rebuild using new parts where required. On completion the GPZ was ridden for only a couple of hundred miles and then stored in the vendor's private collection. The rebuild is fully documented by images on a memory stick, which is available for prospective purchasers to view on request. There is also a video of the machine running, available to view on the Bonhams website. Accompanying documents include a current V5C and a quantity of MoT certificates (most recent expired 2019), while it should be noted that the HPI report records the previous colour as black. Two keys present.Footnotes:All lots are sold 'as is/where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com
1988 Kawasaki 998cc ZX10B TomcatRegistration no. F485 PNCFrame no. JKAZXCB16KA017483Engine no. ZXT00AE041236• Imported from the USA• Only 3,662 miles from new• Recent professional (cosmetic) restorationKawasaki followed up its trend-setting GPz900R superbike of 1984 with the GPZ1000RX, which after only two years in production was superseded by the ZX10. Introduced for 1988, the latter boasted an aluminium 'E-box' frame and was 35lbs lighter than its steel-framed predecessor. The extensively revised 16-valve water-cooled engine now produced 137bhp, which was good enough for a top speed knocking on 170mph. UK customers had to make do with 'only' 125bhp courtesy of the industry's 'gentlemen's agreement' to restrict maximum power, though the missing horses were easily reinstated by modifying the carburettor tops to enable the slides to open fully. Bodywork was similar to the outgoing GPz's but featured a higher screen giving greater wind protection to the rider. The ZX10 was only manufactured for three years (1988-1990) before being superseded by the ZZR-1100. This example of Kawasaki's cutting-edge late 1980s superbike was imported from Texas, hence the US-market 'Tomcat' name (import certificate on file). The machine had covered only 3,662 miles from new and had spent most of its life in storage. It even has the Kawasaki running-in sticker on the rev counter! The Kawasaki looked a little tired when acquired and was sent to a professional restoration company (Jap Retro), who were instructed to dismantle and rebuild it for cosmetic purposes only. The entire bike was stripped and cleaned; the wheels repolished and repainted; the bodywork fully resprayed and given new decals; and the exhaust system Cerakoated and powder-coated to give it the 'as new' look. The Kawasaki now looks as it should and must be one of the best ZX10 Tomcats currently available. The rebuild is fully documented by images on a memory stick, which prospective purchases may view on request. There is also a video of the machine running, available to view on the Bonhams website. Accompanying documents include a (copy) Kawasaki Certificate of Origin; ZX10 owner's manual; two MoT certificates (most recent expired May 2023), and a UK V5C Registration Certificate showing only one former keeper. Four keys present.Footnotes:All lots are sold 'as is/where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com
