HOKYUDO ITSUMIN: A SUPERB WOOD NETSUKE OF A SARUMAWASHI AND MONKEYBy Hokyudo Itsumin, signed Itsumin o 逸民翁 Japan, Edo (Tokyo), mid-19th century, Edo period (1615-1868)The sarumawashi (monkey trainer) dressed in typical attire, his robe very finely carved and decorated with various patterns, his show-monkey seated next to him, a minutely carved rope around the simian's neck. The monkey is tugging on the rope which extends in several loops into the hand of the sarumawashi, who glances over at the monkey with a surprised expression as he readies his stick to punish the monkey for its disobedience. The scene is carved with delightful charm and humor; the expressions are captured perfectly. The eyes are double inlaid in pale and dark horn. Two small himotoshi underneath and the signature within a typically shaped, raised reserve ITSUMIN o [old man Itsumin].LENGTH 4.4 cm, HEIGHT 4.2 cmCondition: Excellent condition, hardly any wear.Provenance: US private collection.Hokyudo Itsumin was a highly talented carver of netsuke and okimono who likely started his career in Nagoya, possibly as a pupil of Ittan, and later moved to Edo (Tokyo). Monkeys were a favored subject of the artist, the subject of the sarumawashi, however, is considerably rarer.

ONO RYOMIN: AN AMUSING IVORY MANJU NETSUKE DEPICTING 'THE REVENGE OF THE MONKEY'By Ono Ryomin, signed Ono Ryomin 小野陵民 and kakihanJapan, Edo (Tokyo), mid-19th century, Edo period (1615-1868)The two-part ivory manju netsuke finely stained and neatly polished, worked in shishiaibori (sunken relief) with stained sumi details, the front showing a human-sized monkey (saru) wearing a mugwort leaf skirt, an attribute of the magical mountain hermits known as sennin, pulling at the collar of a sarumawashi (monkey trainer), the latter with an agonized expression, scrambling and flailing with his arms, his food basket toppled over, and his taming stick visible in the background. The reverse shows another sarumawashi, evidently aware of his companion's demise, cowering and attempting to flee the scene. Large, central himotoshi, the cord attachment within, and signed to the back ONO RYOMIN and kakihan.DIAMETER 4.6 cmCondition: Very good condition. While stranded on a desert island, Noland fashioned an axe out of an ice skate and a piece of wood, and used it to build the raft upon which he escaped the island. It matches the one seen on-screen through wear and markings on the boot, blade and handle.The axe is made with an intentionally distressed ice skate lashed with a natural fibre rope around a wooden stick. LOVE GURU, THE (2008) - Justin Timberlake Autographed Hockey Stick and Elephant Flower GarlandAn ice hockey stick autographed by Justin Timberlake and a garland of flowers from Marco Schnabel's romantic comedy The Love Guru. Jacques "Le Coq" Grandé (Timberlake) used an ice hockey stick while keeping goal for the Los Angeles Kings. Lucy the elephant wore flowers as she was led into the ice hockey arena by Jane Bullard (Jessica Alba).Made of wood and painted in black and white, the blade of the ice hockey stick is wrapped in tape upon which Timberlake has written "Eugene: Props!!! Always my favourite department…" followed by his autograph. Eugene McCarthy was a property master on the film. The garland features 33 pink polyester chrysanthemums attached to the webbing of an aeroplane seatbelt. The shaft of the ice hockey stick is broken and the upper half is not included with this lot. The New Paradigm were first introduced in the Season 5 episode "Victory of the Daleks", in which the Doctor (Matt Smith) uncovered a plot to recreate the Dalek species during World War II. These new Daleks were much bulkier than their predecessors and introduced a colour-coded hierarchy. The yellow-coloured Dalek, known as the Eternal, also appeared in the Season 5 episode "The Pandorica Opens" alongside a Supreme Dalek and a Drone Dalek, when the Doctor was locked away in the Pandorica.The Dalek is made predominantly of moulded fibreglass and resin with medium-density fibreboard collar pieces and interior. It is painted yellow, with a silver-coloured metal eye stalk; a gun stick; an extendable metal arm; black sense globes on its lower half; and a grey midsection. The collar pieces are painted matt grey, and there is a small red button protruding from the back of the neck, which illuminates the Dalek's two dome lights. The sense globes and yellow paint finish exhibit scuffing, some components are missing from the two arms, and minor sympathetic restoration has been undertaken. This custom-made, three-wheeled vehicle is equipped with a motorised disc launcher, a battering ram featuring a jackhammer head fastened to a pogo stick, a cheese grater seat, an LED clip light, power conduits, and a 12-volt drill configured to rotate the tire chain. It exhibits discolouration and damage from production, most notably on the launcher, and is currently nonfunctional. OMEN, THE (1976) - Production-used ClapperboardA clapperboard from the production of Richard Donner's horror The Omen. The large black-painted wooden clapperboard features the film's title painted in white along the top, with the names of director Richard Donner and director of photography Gilbert Taylor below. Lines of white paint divide the clapperboard into two sections titled "Slate" and "Take". Both fields display written details, including "107" and "(1,2)", in black marker, which can only be seen in specific lighting. There are remnants of red chalk on the back of the clapperboard. The lot displays minor corrosion on the metal hinge of the clapper stick, which is quite loose. In Star Wars lore, gimer sticks were a source of nutrients if chewed and helped aid in meditation. Connor wore his costume during the opening sequence as he and Resistance soldiers attacked a prominent Skynet base. The costume comprises a brown leather bomber jacket (size XL) with a metal zip, metal buckles at the waist and neck, and a red sash attached to the left arm; a nylon harness complete with rope, crampons and canvas bags containing resin ammunition magazines; a black cotton T-shirt (no size marked); a pair of camouflage trousers (no size marked) with built-in plastic kneepads, plastic buttons and metal buckles on the waist; a pair of black boots (UK 11) made of rubber and canvas with lace-in boot zips affixed by leather laces; a pair of fingerless leather gloves with knuckle padding; a black nylon leg holster with two blocks decorated to resemble C-4 explosives; a black nylon wrist holster with a metal knife and plastic sheath attached; and a green nylon leg holster holding a rubber stunt handgun. A GEORGE III MAHOGANY MERCURY STICK BAROMETER, WILLIAM BOWLEY, SHREWSBURYEARLY 19TH CENTURYWith open triangular pediment over silvered Vernier scale calibrated in barometric inches opposing the usual observations, the right-hand upper corner with engraved signature W'm Bowley, Shrewsbury, Fec't within a circular cartouche, set behind hinged glazed door over chevron strung and crossbanded trunk with visible tube flanked by angled banded veneers, above rounded base fitted with ring-turned domed cistern cover.100cm (39.5ins) high excluding brass finial, 15cm (6ins) wide. William Bowley is recorded in Banfield, Edwin BAROMETER MAKERS & RETAILERS 1660-1900 as an engraver working from Wyle Cop, Shrewsbury, 1809-18. Condition Report: The tube is intact and contains mercury but has extensive air locks hence will need refilling. The silvered scale is in sound original condition but has heavy patchy tarnishing/discolouration. The case is in sound original condition with faults limited to a filled bump/chip to the right hand side of the rounded base panel and minor bumps, scuffs, chips to mouldings and shrinkage; the surface is in untouched condition hence is a little dull/uneven hence would benefit from the attention of a good furniture finisher. Condition Report Disclaimer
