BARNARD FAMILY A VICTORIAN SILVER DESK STAND of generous proportions, the casket centre top and flank garlanded reservoirs together with the base all fully hall marked as are the drip pans to the flames, London 1862, the flame finials are un-marked but presumed original by precedent, the taper stick and sconce are marked Henry Wilkinson & Co., Sheffield 1846, the made up holder into which the taper stick sits, is un-marked but tests silver, and is clearly a later replacement. The pattern origin ally had an elaborate spirit lamp on top. 25cm x 36cm overall, total silver 1918g

Dec 25th 1919`, above scenes of figures amongst pavilions, the shaft with brass ferrule, 94.5cm high Provenance: Previously the property of Herbert Henry Asquith, a Christmas present, possibly from Clementine Churchill. Later the property of Roy Jenkins, Lord Jenkins of Hillhead Sold Sotheby`s 18th December 1995, lot 366. The walking stick is offered with a hand written note on House of Lords headed note paper. The note reads `Dear Maggie. Herewith the walking stick. As I warned you, it is not in itself a thing of elegant beauty, but it is authentic, and was presumably a Christmas present. The identity of CC is. elusive, -Roy`.
