A mid-19th century Scottish rosewood, brass and ivory marine stick barometer by David Heron, Glasgow the arched case with top loop, concealed tube with angled ivorine plates with sliding vernier, signed in the arch D. HERON / GLASGOW, the trunk with front-mounted thermometer, brass gimbal weight, mounted in a hinged gimbal 37½in. (95cm.) high overall. David Heron was active between 1815 and 1863 from several addresses in Glasgow but was probably at 212 Broomielaw at the date of this instrument. He was located here between 1836 and 1847, but was in partnership from 1844, becoming David Heron & Co.

Yarmouth, concealed tube with angled scales, hinged cover with inset thermometer, brass gimbal weight and hinged gimbal with securing pin 37½in. (95cm.) high overall. Thornton Fisher & Son worked from South Quay, Yarmouth, between 1844-1847.
