A Chinese export porcelain model of an elephant, and the head turned to one side, enamelled in fiery orange and gilt, the richly caparisoned creature supporting a flared joss stick holder 10. 5cm h, c1820. Small flat chip to the nozzle and front right fore paw and light wear to the gilding, no restoration (See lot 554 for illustration).
A good collection of Victorian and early 20th c hat pins, including gold, silver, giltmetal, enamel, jet, tortoiseshell and other examples, several of Art Nouveau design, another in the form of a hockey stick, by Adie and Lovekin Ltd, Birmingham 1909, many in pairs; with four contemporary continental porcelain hat pin stands (75 approx) . In generally excellent condition.
A Victorian rosewood stick barometer, with ivory scales signed CHADBURN BROS SHEFFIELD, REGISTERED NO3980 Oct 14th 1841 No154 and inscribed TEN AM YESTERDAY 10AM TO DAY, with twin verniers and mercury thermometer, in figured case with arched top and bulbshaped cistern, 92cm h. Rather dusty behind the glass and the lid of the cistern an old turned and stained wood replacement. The thermometer original but broken. Apart from these faults in excellent and entirely original condition, charged with mercury.
A matched set of eight ash dining chairs, with turned top rail, stick splat and rush seat, on turned legs united by a baluster fore stretcher, the set including two elbow chairs, 95cm h, early 19th c . In sound condition, repolished and re-rushed having been bought by the present vendors some years ago
