An extremely rare George II Channel Islands silver chamber stick, maker's mark IG struck once with pellet above in an oval (Jean Gavey, Jersey, c.1715-1775), the urn form nozzle with gadrooned rim and pedestal on a dished circular base, with gadrooned border and loop side handle with reeded thumbpiece, with engraved crest, the underside with three counter form feet on fine foliate cut card mounts, 5½in. (14cm.) diameter, 2¼in. (5.7cm.) high. * This is believed to be the only known example of a Channel Islands silver chamber stick in existence, which was probably a special commission from a client who had seen such pieces in England or on the Continent. Contrary to most English examples, it does not feature a fitting for a separate snuffer.

A large Derby figure of John Wilkes, c.1765-70, standing and resting one hand on a square plinth, atop of which rests a scroll inscribed 'Bill of Rights', draped in a long pink cloak, a putto to his right, holding a phrygian cap on the end of a stick and supporting a book titled 'Lock [sic] on Gov't', raised on a scrolled base, the putto's right foot lacking, 31.5cm. John Wilkes (1725-1797) was an English politician and radical journalist whose criticism of the King in his magazine The North Briton earned him a warrant for his arrest for libel in 1763. Citing parliamentary privilege he was cleared of the charge and went on to become Lord Mayor of London in 1774.
