Luftwaffe 2nd Pattern Officers Dress Dagger with Hanging Straps by Carl Eickhorn Solingen, an interesting example of a 2nd pattern dress dagger which appears to have been made up of original parts, probably produced by one of the dagger factories in 1945 to sell as a souvenir to British or American troops. The dagger has a blue leather covered grip for a 1st pattern Luftwaffe dress dagger, aluminium top pommel with swastika to both sides, aluminium 2nd pattern cross guard. Housed in an earlier pattern 2nd pattern scabbard which has a pair of deluxe pattern velvet backed brocade hanging straps for a Luftwaffe officers dagger. Carl Eickhorn Solingen trade mark to the base of the blade. Some surface staining to the blade. The blade measures 24 ½ cms, overall 42 ½ cms. At the end of WW2, the German manufacturers had a large quantity of fittings left over and would assemble daggers to sell to the abundance of allied service men in Germany who were looking for souvenirs to take home, as a result the factories did not stick to the regulations and protocols they worked under the Third Reich so you do often see miss-matches or parts daggers like these.
