Colin Purdie Kelly Jr. (July 11, 1915 – December 10, 1941) was a World War II B-17 Flying Fortress pilot who flew bombing runs against the Japanese navy in the first days after the Pearl Harbor attack. He is remembered as one of the first American heroes of the war after ordering his crew to bail out while he remained at the bomber’s controls trying to keep the plane in the air before it exploded, killing him. His was the first American B-17 to be shot down in combat. Good condition, large tear on bottom middle, backed on paper. AN AUSTRIAN ENAMEL VESSEL WITH CLOCK, LATE 19TH CENTURY the body formed as a nautilus atop a spreading petal foot, enamelled overall with allegorical scenes, the hinged cover as an antennaed and feathered creature, the body featuring a goddess atop a whale, with three male figures, the verso a leisure scene with a female, two males and a satyr, the base with three female and one male figures, the base centered with a clock with white enamel face, Roman and subsidiary Arabic numerals; overall height: 26 cm (10 1/4 in.) CONDITIONThe vessel is in overall good condition. The hinge has a tendency to stick. Tarnish is visible to the naked eye, and could benefit from a polish. N.B. A large Royal Copenhagen ceramic stick stand, decorated with fallow deer and flowering iris, No 7325. 58cm high The stickstand is in good condition, the factory mark is inside, not on the base.  This might be a factory second, there appears to be a fire mark around the collar of the vase.  Also there is filler? to areas around the base, see additional images. I am sure it is not damaged or restored.  The stickstand still rings when tapped.  The exterior is good with one or two scuffs and scratches.
