An interesting St Helena French POW carved walking stick, slender, irregular haft, engraved at the top “St Helena/POW”, small copper ferrule (worn), rootwood T shaped grip, the crosspiece carved in the form of a reclining lizard, the top of the haft with head of an antelope, 34” overall. GC Plate 4
A mid 18th century bamboo swordstick, hollow triangular section, tapering blade 32”, knopped ivory grip decorated with silver studwork reversed and interlaced C’s, crosslets and circles, lacquered stick with 3¼” sheet iron ferrule (rusted and split), 40½” overall. GC the ivory hilt good (edge nick to blade and dark rust patina). Plate 4
A darkwood walking stick, brass ferrule, silver band HM IH B’ham 1914 35” overall; another knotted lightwood stick, similar band not HM, 34”; another walking cane, right angle grip with foliate silver end HM JB & Co (rest unclear) 33”; and an ebony walking cane, stylized foliate embossed brass knop, 35½”. GC (4)
Medical interest:- an 18th century doctor's prescription written in ink and dated August 28, 1758, "Take of ye following dry herbs and roots, viz: Of Speedwell and Fimiterrry, clean without the stocks, of each 3. standfulls. Of Marsh=Mallows root and Sweet Fennel root, of each 3. ounces. Stick Liquorish 1/4 of a pound. All these are to be had at the comon (sic) Herb or Physic stalls; but the following from the Druggists, viz: Prad : Sarsparill, China de China, of each 3. ounces. Corf : Salsafracis, one ounce"......etc. etc.Some staining to left side and some tears to paper but all ink is clear. A nice piece of social history.
Royal interest, a gift from Queen Victoria:- a Victorian gold memento mori stick pin depicting portrait bust of John Brown (1826-1883), the controversial Highland manservant and friend of the monarch, flanked by initials "JB" and below this the date of his death "1883," reverse with the royal and imperial cipher "FROM VRI", in a fitted red leather and gold-tooled case with crowned cipher of King George VI and retailed by D. Grant & Son of Edinburgh, 7.2 cm. long, wt. 6 gm. Lytton Strachey's 1921 biography of Queen Victoria states that following Brown's death in 1883 ".......a Brown memorial brooch, of gold, with the late gillie's head on one side and the royal monogram on the other, was designed by Her Majesty for presentation to her Highland servants and cottagers, to be worn by them on the anniversary of his death, with a mourning scarf and pins." In excellent condition.

Pair 1920s silver candlesticks with square columns and separate sconces, on square bases (Birmingham 1920), A. J. Zimmerman, 15.5cm overall height CONDITION REPORT General overall condition quite good. Some surface scratching and wear. Both sticks have some surface dents. Edges of both bases are nibbled. HIM Kaiser Wilhelm II - Emperor of Germany - fine gold, enamel, diamond and sapphire set presentation stick pin in the form of the crowned Imperial eagle, in original fitted velvet-covered box with gilt crown to lid, retailed by Johann Wagner & Sohn, Berlin, the pin 9.5cm overall. Sold with handwritten note that this stick pin was presented by the Kaiser to the Captain of the Yacht Carina on August 8th 1894
Victorian pearl and diamond stick pin, the purple / black button pearl (not tested for natural origin) suspended from a gold leaf set with an old diamond CONDITION REPORT The pearl measures approximately 8.30mm x 8.55mm x 5mm deep.
