An oak chest in the mid 17th Century manner, the plain top with moulded edge above two short and two long geometric moulded decorated drawers with turned knob handles flanked by simulated studwork stiles on turned feet CONDITION REPORTS Overall with wear and scuffs, has a varnished finish, top with large split and various scratches and knocks, one section of moulding to drawer fallen off but present, drawer runners require some attention as drawers currently quite stiff and stick. Sepik Papua New Guinea , A carved crocodile walking stick made by natives for Francis de Sales McHugh, Carved from one piece of hardwood , the crocodile`s body forming a looped handle, the stick carving with a flowing design . and with carved head, the eyes formed from tiny shells . PROVENANCE; Given to Francis de Sales McHugh in 1933 when he was supervising the construction of a post office for the Queensland Department of Posts & Telegraphs , in New Guinea . He suffered an insect bite which turned septic , leaving him lame for some time. 32in. (81cm)
