Archive of approx. 200-300 original assignment letters addressed to George Formby, song contracts, 1930s/40s, including some his most famous songs (The Window Cleaner; The Emperor of Lancashire; On the Beat; The Ukulele Man; The Blue Eyed Blonde Next Door; Going Down the Hole for the Coal; Imagine Me on the Maginot Line, and others), housed in binder. To include a carbon copy of an amusing letter from George, addressed to Gifford and Cliffe, 12 July 1936, signed 'GF' in blue ink, 'Dear lads, Very many thanks for your song but I am very sorry to have to send it back to you as it is really too blue, you are getting too much on the sex stuff, try and clean it up a bit and send it along again, alas you will have to clean up "With me little stick of Blackpool rock" for I can't work it in the state it is in, the Records have refused to do it as it is, so you had better get busy making them cleaner.
