A set of four George III silver candlesticks, each having reeded columns with acanthus capitals and a detachable bobeche, the base having paterae, laurel swags, and a cartouche engraved with a crest, (possibly Fowke) below a baronet's coronet, William Watkins, London, 1773, 13 x 13 x 32 cm. [These candlesticks are superficially very smart; they stand upright and exhibit no major deformations. Their bases are reasonably true and sit flush, with slight “curling” at their apexes. Of import however is wear to the collars around the cluster columnar stems, apparent under close scrutiny. The lower sets have been variously polished through at these collars. There is evidence of old repairs to at least one stick at this point, and one stick exhibits lack of structural integrity at the same pint, resulting in a very slight flex or wobble.]
