XINXIU SHANGCHAN (late Qing-Republic) A monk holding a stick sitting under rocks, ink and colour on paper, hanging scroll, marked one seal of the artist on the top right and four collector's seals on the lower left, 28.5" (72.4cm) x 12.5" (31.8cm). Provenance: A single-owner collection of Chinese paintings inherited from Colonel B.K. Blount CB (Special Operations Executive in China in World War II). Blount inherited some of the older pictures in the group from Sir Arthur Kennedy GCMG CB, Governor of Hong Kong between 1872 and 1877.
