A set of 999 fine silver Newlyn Trio stick pins by James Suddaby, each stamped with signature, Newlyn and 999FS, weight 20.15g.James Darrall Suddabyarrived in Cornwall at the age of 18 in 1992 and quickly found himself embroiled in the Newlyn fish industry. Working filleting for a number of well known local Newlyn and St Ives fish merchants, James decided to try his hand at fishing and bought himself a boat. After a while he felt his preference was in handling the fish and back he went and worked again for the fishmongers in Newlyn.Fish had been a lifelong interest so it was quite a natural progression to make his hobby interest in silversmithing into his main occupation as a silversmith sculptor making one off pieces of wearable art. In 2012 left Newlyn and moved up to Somerset where he currently lives today and set up his workshop.James’s main idea was to craft wearable pieces of art with his silver jewellery and has used his love of the Cornish fish industry as one of his main themes. This way he is still able to be both a silversmith and artist/sculptor and celebrate the fishing industry of Cornwall which he loves so much. Each of his pieces are all hand made and the fish are hand sculpted. Even the wire is drawn by hand.James is regularly down in Newlyn and St. Ives searching for new ideas.
