Photograph of Patrick Bronte in old age, in an oval gilt frame, 4.75" x 3.75", On the reverse is the following which was presumably the original Museum designation "Rev P Bronte; Various relics including an oval photograph framed and glazed, a small china blue and white plate often used by him and a sword stick. The photograph was owned by Martha Brown and was bought from the Ratcliffes from whom came also the plate. The swordstick is accompanied by a framed certificate from C Stansfield who sold it to Mr Dixon. It was given by Mr Bronte to John Hudson the elder of Haworth who repaired Mr Bronte`s boots for many years and was bought by Stansfield John Hudson the Younger his son", Included in the lot is "Emily Jane Bronte and the authorship of Wuthering Heights" by Alice Law publ by the Old Parsonage Press. PROVENANCE; Acquired from the Collection of the late Mr Robinson Brown (late of Haworth) Sold by Sotheby Wilkinson and Hodge of Wellington Street, Strand in their auction of The Museum of Bronte Relics on 3rd July 1898 lot 105. The catalogue a copy of which is included in this lot states the following: "A large proportion of these relics was given by members of the Bronte family at various times to William Brown (father of Mr Robinson Brown), Sexton at Haworth Church during 20 years of the Rev P Bronte`s incumbency, and to his niece Martha Brown, who for many years lived in the Bronte family. Those relics which were not inherited from these relatives by Mr Robinson Brown, he acquired from Mr A Gledhill, Keithley; Miss Nussey; Mr W Scruton, Bradford and others; a few were purchased by him in the locality." The collection had for some years been displayed at the Temperance tea rooms in Haworth.
A silver and enamelled circular brooch, decorated with flowers, Birmingham 1946, a single row necklace of coral beads, a coral cameo, designed as the portrait of a lady, a black enamelled oval hinged bangle with a seed pearl set starburst motif, a gold and diamond set stick pin, a silver charm bracelet, a silver faceted curb link collar neckchain, a bracelet detailed 925, silver and other jewellery, including; seven rings, a rectangular ingot shaped pendant, two pendant lockets, a cigarette case and sundry.
A Group of Three Small 17th-18th Candlesticks; a 17th century candlestick having a flared candle cup with circular extracting holes above a baluster column and mid drip pan above a flared base. 5½ ins (14 cms) in height. An 18th century candle stick with a reel-form candle cup above a baluster shaft and mid drip pan, with a flared base 5 ins (13 cms) in height. A 17th century candlestick with a roundel aperture above a bulbous knop and a moulded base with canted corners. 6 ins (15 cms) in height.
A Late 18th Century Brass Skimmer decorated with a star shaped design of draining holes, connected to a strap handle with copper rivets and terminating with a pierced loop end 23 ins (58 cms) in length. A brass chamber stick; the candle cup centring a galleried tray base with pierced sides and strap handle. A pair of small brass candle sticks circa 1800; the urn shaped candle cups with push up candle ejectors on flared square plinth bases 4½ ins (11.5 cms) in height.
A Group of Three Primitive Oak Stools. A small stool with a thick octagonal top morticed through with three stick legs 8½ ins (22 cms) in height, 8½ ins (22 cms) in depth. A rectangular topped stool with canted corners and three splayed legs 13 ins (33 cms) in height, 11 ins (28 cms) in width. A circular top stool having four stick legs with canted edges joined by crossed stretchers. 21 ins (53 cms) in height, 13¼ ins (34 cms) in diameter.
A Late 18th/Early 19th Century West Country Comb Back Windsor Armchair retaining traces of original green paintwork. The bowed top rail above seven long spindles; the outer two piercing through the ends of the arm rests with six further underarm spindles; three either side, and shaped end supports. The D-shaped elm seat morticed through with four stick legs, 41 ins (105 cms) high, 24½ ins (62 cms) wide.
A 17th Century Brass Italian Baroque Pricket Stick. The spike centring a dished drip tray on an acorn knopped column cast with a band of with leaves above a triangular platform raised on a triform base ornamented with cherub heads and terminating on ball & claw feet, 20¾ ins (53 cms) in height.
