AN ANTIQUE PERCUSSION WALKING STICK SHOTGUN, in 42 bore fitted with a 30' barrel, its body is painted to look like wood, it has two triggers which appear when the handle is drawn back and twisted which then compresses air within the handle, when the front trigger is pulled the air drives the firing pin onto an internal percussion nipple, access to the nipple is afforded by screwing off the barrel at the point where the barrel is hexagonal shaped, the cane bears no name or other visible marks, the purpose of the second trigger is unknown, this is an extremely unusual and interesting design

Lot 1157

A malacca and ivory sword stick, 19th century, with ivory handle and malacca shaft with silver collar drawing to a steel double edged blade, the shaft with horn ferrule. Blade length 39.3 cm, overall length 91.5 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The ivory handle is stained through age and has some age cracks but these are not open. The silver mounts have small knocks and are tarnished. There is a 14 cm strip of dark brown going to light brown staining but we am not sure what this is. There is a bend at the base of the shaft. 10 cm below the silver collar there is a very fine 12 cm hairline crack to the shaft. The lower half of the shaft is extremely crazed. The blade itself is double edged and there are patches of rust throughout.

Lot 1158

A sword stick, 19th century, with horn handle, the lower part being dark stained and inset with a vacant medallion surrounded by fox foot motifs and with a gilt metal collar, the shaft ebonised with a silver plated ferrule housing a double edged blade. Blade length 71.2 cm, overall length 75.5 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The horn handle is in good order with no obvious faults visible. Half of the handle shaft is a darker stained colour (possibly to make it appear like tortoiseshell). This darker section has the gilt decorations. The embossed collar is gilt metal and is rather tired. The double edged blade is tarnished throughout and has no visible makers marks. The ebonised shaft again is rather tired with the ebonising rubbed off in areas. Beneath the nickel plated collar there are two 5 cm cracks one of which has a small splice missing. The handle sits offset to the top of the shaft.

A horn and malacca double edged sword stick, late 19th century, the horn handle inset with five ivory dominoes (one missing) and with a gilt metal pressed ferrule, the malacca shaft housing a 61.5 cm blade with engraved inscription "No Me Envaines Sin Honor" and verso "No Me Saques Sin Razon" (draw me not without reason, sheath me not without honour) and with further engraved scrolls. Overall length 85 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The locking mechanism does work but is rather tight. The horn handle has been originally set with six dominoes however a domino which should sit on the crook of the handle is now missing. Each domino has a small chip or a hairline stress crack. The embossed gilt metal collar has lost its gilding. The double edge blade appears to be in a nice condition with a small amount of tarnishing and a very minimal rust spot (singular). The Malacca scabbard has a natural colour to the upper 50% and a dark stained colour to the lower 50%. It has a few long splits measuring approximately 18 cm, 17.5 cm and 20 cm and a further one of 18 cm issuing from the ferule upwards. There is also a very fine 3 cm hairline crack to the top of the scabbard.

An impressive Minton Majolica stick stand, date code for 1876, modelled by Paul Comolera, a heron with wriggling fish in its beak standing beside bulrushes and lily pads, moulded to the base "P. Comolera" and with impressed marks to underside and Shape No. 1917. Height 101 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: There are some feathers to the crest missing. There is a 2 cm high x 1 cm across triangle slice missing from the rear of the neck. The tip of lower beak is missing and a section of the upper beak missing. The fins of the fish has some tips missing. The lip of the upper mouth of the fish is missing. There is a 4 cm x 1 cm patch of glaze missing to the upper reed attached to the neck. Five points of bulrush leaf tips are missing. There are large chips to the leaves at the foot of the base missing. A third of the base has been broken reattached. There are further small patches of glaze missing amongst the reeds throughout. There is a large thumbnail chip and two further smaller chips to the side of the base. Ideally one would come and view this item.
