Lalique, France`; a single small `Pouilly` liqueur glass; a single `Dampierre` glass; a small Sabino opalescent glass model of a fish, 5cm high; and a Baccarat clear glass figure of a rabbit, 8cm high, all bear makers marks (11)
ARCHIBALD KNOX FOR LIBERTY & CO, THREE PAIRS OF `CYMRIC` SILVER NAPKIN RINGS, HALLMARKED 1903-4. comprising a pair of plain bands, each with three embossed stylised foliate motifs, set with green and blue enamels, 4.8cm diameter, 3.7cm high; and two further pairs, each with moulded bands, embossed with three pairs of stylised plant motifs set with coloured enamels, 5cm diameter, 3.7cm high, all bear inscription `C/ 1878-1903`, hallmarked Birmingham 1903, within fitted box (6)
An associated set of eight graduated copper haystack measures, 19th century, of typical form with looping handles, the largest 31cm high Condition Report:** The measures bear the usual minor knocks and dents overall consistent with age and use. The largest two measures for Gallon and 1/2 Gallon have some more significant dents overall. There is polish residue to the recesses. The only visible seams are behind the handles of the quart measure the one gill measure (the third and sixth largest)
A Charles II oak dresser base, circa 1680 and later, the rectangular plank top above three drawers flanked by carved lozenge motif, on turned legs united by stretchers, 90cm high, 210cm wide, 57cm deep Condition report: ** Marks, scratches and abrasions consistent with age and use. Old closed splits. Handles replaced. Locks replaced. Evidence of old worn. Minor chips. Later supporting blocks to interior carcass. Please refer to additional images for visual reference to condition. Top is oak and later legs and stretchers are oak, side panels are oak. Drawers, drawer fronts and moulding above drawers is pine. All front legs and stretchers appear later replaced. Rear right hand leg is broken at centre due to worm. Side panels each bear two holes and wear from previous handles (see pictures). Rear right corner of top appears to be later replaced.
A mottled green patinated bronze model of a bear, last quarter 20th century, cast after Jonathan Knight, inscribed Knight to one rear leg, 31cm high, 48cm long. Jonathan Knight is best known for his equestrian subject matter. His statue of ‘Dawn Run’ at Cheltenham Racecourse was well received, as was the life size bronze of ‘Music Boy’ at Cheveley Park Stud. Knight’s work is held in private collections throughout the world, including in that of H.M. The Queen. He exhibits regularly in London, Sussex, Belgium and Holland. Provenance: Donnington Castle House, Donnington, Newbury Condition Report:** The patina is a most attractive mottled brown and olive green overall. The claws have a more solid light green patina. It is in very good shape overall. There are no issue/marks on it
A pair of Dutch-decorated creamware plates, painted with scenes of men and women at the dinner table, titled `Zyn Hoerery` (His Whoring) and `Zyn Maaltyd` (His Dinner), and three French pottery plates, decorated with a bear, children and soldiers, 18th and 19th centuries, some restoration, 25.3cm max. (5)
A Majolica `Isle of Man` teapot and cover, probably William Brownfield & Sons, modelled as a three-legged sailor seated on a rope coil and holding a furled Union flag, his third leg forming the spout, his head the cover, his shoulders moulded with the Three Legs symbol, 2nd half 19th century, a small chip to the hat, 22cm. (2) Brownfield was commissioned to produce these teapots for W. Broughton`s shop in Douglas. Some examples bear an advertising slogan in slip to the base of the pot.
A gun metal alarm pocket watch made by Zenith and retailed by Birch & Gaydon LTD, circa 1915, the black dial with bold luminous Arabic numerals, subsidiary alarm and seconds dials positioned at twelve and six o` clock respectively, the gun metal case numbered 10702, hand and alarm set pushers flank the winding at one and eleven o` clock, case bears an integral stand, fitted with a signed movement with Swiss lever escapement. Case diameter 47mm. Although this watch does not bear any military property stamps, it does have certain attributes which would make it an admirable service timepiece. The retailer, Birch & Gaydon Ltd of London, supplied the British military with equipment throughout the Great War and, as is probably the case with this watch, also retailed their stock privately to members of the armed forces. The watch itself was made by the Swiss maker Zenith, circa 1915 employing an unusual 15 jewel movement with a built-in alarm which is operated by a second spring barrel and a hammer which strikes against a gong. Clever case design also enabled the user to position the watch upright on an integral stand. For reference please see Wesolowski; Military Timepieces page 28. Keyless wind pocket watch, movement is currently functioning, dial is marked, luminescent is wearing away from Arabic numerals, luminescent has fallen off minute hand and is loose in dial, glass is slightly scratched, case is scratched and scuffed as a result of general wear. An early twentieth century 9ct gold keyless wind open face pocket watch, the white enamel dial with black Roman numerals and subsidiary seconds dial positioned to 6 o`clock, the case hallmarked Birmingham 1916, the unsigned movement with Swiss lever escapement. Case diameter 49 mm. Movement is currently functioning, the movement does bear signs of previous repair and would be ameliorated by a service, the case bears signs of wear with light scratches, marks and tarnishing the majority of which appear to be superficial and should polish out, please be aware there are some light dints around the side of the case and some more pronounced scratches around the case opening aperture, both of the case back and the dust cover, the pendant bow feels quite slack, the dial is shows signs of damage, with some hairline cracks between ten and twelve o`clock, sunken enamel around the second hand and more pronounced damage to the five o`clock position, hands are tarnished with what appear to be light areas of surface rust, glass has a variety of small scratches and could do with a clean, more noticeable is a circular mark on the inside of the glass, perhaps caused by the minute hand.
