George Murgatroyd Woodward (British, 1760-1809), possibly engraved by Cruikshank The Symptoms of Drinking, 1790 - The King; Our Old Friend; Integrity to Those who wear the Robes of Justice; Delicate Pleasures to Susceptible Minds; The Queen and Family; and The Democrats Thoughout the World inscribed "G M Woodward Del" and with title, published by Wm Holland N 50 Oxford St engravings (6) - considered as very rare by Suckling and Co of Cecil Court 24½ x 18cm (9 x 7in) George Woodward was born in in Derbyshire - he enjoyed drawing caricatures of his friends and neighbours and began to acquire a reputation as a caricaturist. He moved to London in 1785 and began to publish his prints. In 1790 he published a set of six caricatures under the title ‘Symptoms of Drunkenness’. Woodward was a friend and drinking companion of his fellow artist, Thomas Rowlandson. Woodward died at the Brown Bear public house in Bow Street, London, in November 1809, of dropsy, with a glass of brandy in his hand. He was buried at the expense of the landlord. His work is represented in the collections of the British Museum, the Cartoon Art Trust and the V & A; the Derby Local Studies Library, the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, and Leeds City Art Gallery. All unframed, paper crinkled and some browning.
John Hutchison after Thomas Gainsborough (Scottish, 19th Century) Portrait of the Hon. Mrs Thomas Graham, head and shoulders signed on the reverse "John Hutchison" oil on canvas 75 x 49cm (29 x 19in) Thomas Gainsborough's original full length portrait is in the National Gallery of Scotland. Mrs Graham's portrait was painted a year after her marriage to the Hon. Thomas Graham. She fell ill and died during her journey to France in 1792, and after her death her husband could not bear to look at her portrait again and it was lost for many years, before being given to the National Gallery of Scotland. The present portrait probably dates from 1891 when the head was reproduced as a print by Thomas G Appleton. Two tears in canvas which have been repaired from reverse. Paint layer has large drying cracks in many areas. The surface has an uneven gloss. A few small losses to gilding on frame. Blacks are coalescing. Under glass.
Collection of fifteen Victorian Prattware pot lids, some with bases including The Room in which Shakespeare was born 1564, Bear Baiting, Strasburg etc, two toothpaste pot lids and three Prattware jugs and cup (21 pieces) CONDITION REPORT Bear baiting lid has vertical crack to right hand side, evidence of extensive repair. Hairline crack to 'The Enthusiast'. Garibaldi has rim chips and crack into the image at 7 o'clock. Otherwise some general crazing and time staining to pieces consistent with age

Two vintage stuffed teddy bears, 44cm long (a/f) CONDITION REPORT: Lot 156 - smaller bear is well worn, feet flexible and ankles, mouth lacking, but joints all work. Larger bear is heavily worn, fur thin and bald in places, squashed with stuffing not tight, hands and soles of feet have been repaired with new material including the whole of the left wrist, repair stitching to nose, ears perished to rear, possible noise box inside, joints work. Both bears have been well loved.
