ARTHUR MOODY (1887-1967) haida argillite - Totem pole, carved with a sea eagle with fish, bear with salmon, raven with basket and shaman with basket chewing a root(?), on square base, 44cm high Provenance: private collection, consigned via our Carmarthen office Auctioneer's Note: Arthur is one of several family members who were well known argillite carvers. Born in Skidegate, BC, he learned carving from Robert Miller (1860-1930). The proceeds from the sale of a huge 4 foot argillite pole to the Vancouver Museum enabled him to build his house in Skidegate. Condition Report: cracks, base loose, back crazed.The height including the base is 45cm’s, without the base 40cm’sThe totem is 8cm’s square at the base rising smaller to 5cm’s square at the top.There are cracks, front and back and the base is loose.

The Cardiff caps with dated peaks for 1948-49 and 1949-1950, bearing crests and tassels, both bear interior retailer's labels for R W Forsyth and are hand inscribed R WILLIS in pen. Original vintage Soviet advertising poster informing the reader about Laika hunting dogs, designed by L. M. Fomin for the Soviet Ministry of Agriculture and published 1955, Moscow. The poster pictures four breeds of Laika: a Karelo-Finnish Laika, a Russo-European Laika, an East Siberian Laika, and a West Siberian Laika. Text below each drawing details the breed’s characteristics, average size and appearance. Images around the edge of the poster show three birds in a tree, a Laika hunting a goose in a pond, a Laika in a snowy forest, and three Laikas chasing a brown bear. The slogan at the bottom reads - Do not leave your dog unsupervised in hunting grounds and localities. - This is the second poster in a series of 8 posters titled Hunting and Pastoral Dogs. Set of three original vintage double sided education poster with nursery rhymes and tutorials. 1.The front of the poster depicts a line from the English nursery rhyme Humpty Dumpty - All the King's horses and all the King's men Couldn't put Humpty Dumpty together again. The illustration portrays the great fall from the wall - Humpty Dumpty is portrayed as an egg that cracked because of the fall. The King's horses are rushing to help, the King's men are holding pieces of Humpty Dumpty's eggshell trying to put him back together. Illustrated by Stanley Herbert. The reverse of the poster contains a story Birds Are Singing illustrated in black and white by Cicely Englefield. Common gull - kestrel - rook - tawny owl - magpie - wood-pigeon - jay and green woodpecker are portrayed on panes 17-24 of the story.
