A PALE GOLD MOHAIR TEDDY BEAR circa 1930s, possibly by Chad Valley, wearing a smoking-style hat and an integrally fashioned pink jacket with a white collar, holding a muff, with wood wool stuffing and fitted with a musical squeaker, overall 39cm high. Condition Report : Slightly faded; surface dirty; a few holes to seams; internal wire frame slightly protruding from right paw and left foot. An 18th-century handbill advertising a "chance" sale being drawn at the White Bear, Fleet Street, the viewing taking place at Mr. Cato's, dated 1731. The handbill promotes the sale of chances at two shillings each, and lists the lots & values [a lottery auction]. 'There will be 6000 chances, whereof 1000 will be advantageous, which makes but five to one.' Toning, some creasing & slight wear/loss, framed & glazed. Together with Spring, reverse painted mezzotint, engraved by John Simon after Rosalba Carriera, crack through lower-left, in antique Hogarth frame (2)
