A Black Forest style carved wooden bear, 28 cm high Condition report Report by NG Split in several places and have been glued/filled - split around top of shoulders, glued and filled, piece of wood also added, split from top of left shoulder into head running in a couple of cracks, a couple of smaller splits visible to his head, split to front between front legs, other wear and tear, knocks and bumps. Head: not hinged, just split.

A BRONZE FIGURE OF LUOHAN, LATER MING DYNASTY. H: 20.3 cm. Seated, with his right hand resting on his raised right knee and holding a scroll in his left hand. The Luohan wears long, layered robes, tied high at the waist and falling open to reveal his ribs, and a cloth cap, from which two ribbons fall; his left shoe protrudes from the hem of the robes. His face is well cast with a wrinkled brow, downcast eyes, high cheekbones and an open mouth; his features bear a happy expression. The bronze has a dark brown patina. With an inlaid carved wood stand. Literature: For a very similar blanc-de-Chine figure, dated Ming and in the collection of the Palace Museum, Beijing, see Liu, Blanc de Chine, pl. 33. Provenance: Formerly in an English private collection.
A RARE BAMBOO CARVED FIGURE OF GUANYIN, 18TH CENTURY. H: 11.7 cm. Holding a ruyi sceptre in her right hand and the belt of her long, windswept robes in her left. Her face is delicately carved and her features bear a gently smiling, benevolent expression; her incised hair is drawn up into an elaborate knot. Literature: A similar example is illustrated in Ip and Tam, Chinese Bamboo Carving, Part II, pl. 99, p. 288-9, in the collection of the Hong Kong Museum of Art. Note also Keverne, Bamboo and Wood Carvings of China and the East, no. 144. Provenance: English private collection.
