A pair of late George III silver oblong entrée dishes, covers and handles by Richard Cooke, London 1811, the gadrooned scroll handles issuing from leaves, with gadrooned border and rims, engraved twice with a coat-of-arms, engraved a family crest and a Persian crown on a cushion inside the bases, 31.5cm (12 3/8in) long, 4617g (148.45 oz) The arms are for Sir Harford Jones (1764-1847) who was created a baronet in 1807. Originally in the service of the East India Company, he was Ambassador at the Court of Persia 1807-1811 and the dexter side of this shield show his paternal arms for Jones of Presteign, Radnorshire augmented by honorific insignia for a Baronet who has been awarded the Persian Order of the Crescent. By Royal licence dated 4th May 1826 Sir Harford Jones took the additional name of BRYDGES with licence to bear the BRYDGES arms alone. His arms are here impaled with those of GOTT for his 1796 marriage to Sarah, eldest daughter of Sir Henry Gott of Newland Park, Bucks., and widow of Robert Whitcomb of Herefordshire. Sir Harford was made a Privy Councillor in 1835 and died in 1847. He left two daughters and a son, on whose death in 1891 the baronetcy became extinct.
A set of four George III silver circular plate warmers by Benjamin Smith, London 1807, the plain borders with hinged covers over the water apertures, twin hinged double scroll handles, on scalloped foot rims, engraved with the Royal coat-of-arms, engraved with the initials `H.I.B` for Harford Jones-Brydges beneath, 23.5cm (9 1/4in) diameter, 4572g (147 oz) The Royal coat of arms were, in this instance, for ambassadorial use. An impressive ‘Erector’ airship, probably produced for display at exhibitions around North America. 133cm overall length, with a maximum height of 30cm. A metal frame realistically covered in a silk canopy with ‘THE NEW ERECTOR’ in red to the sides. Fitted with 3 open metal gondolas each with a propeller to the rear. Plastic nose painted in red with mast attachment pin. The rear is fitted with four tailfins, three of which bear a US style marking. The fourth has the ‘NEW ERECTOR’ logo with ‘AC Gilbert Co. New Haven Conn’. Complete with a substantial metal docking mast on a rudimentary wooden base. VGC minor/some wear to mast. See Plate.5
