‡ A PAIR OF MONUMENTAL ITALIAN SCULPTED WHITE MARBLE URNS IN THE MANNER OF THE MEDICI VASE LATE 19TH CENTURY Each with everted rim above a frieze of fruiting grapevines in low relief, the main registers of the bodies of the urns relief carved with figural and equestrian scenes, each with twin handles rising from foliate carved undersides, on knopped and waisted socles with square bases 160cm high, 105cm diameter ‡ UK import VAT at the reduced rate (currently 5%) It was not uncommon for sculptors inspired by ancient works to reinterpret them and to make changes to either the form or the decorative scheme as they saw fit, as is the case in the pair of marble urns offered in this lot. They are of course of Campana form, like the Medici Vase, but the similarities go much further than that. The egg-and-dart moulding to the everted rims, above figural friezes which use the upper edge of the foliate carved underside as a flat ground for the figural scene is very reminiscent of the Medici Vase, as are the twin reeded handles rising from masks. The knopped socle and square base are also fairly generic, but when all the similarities are taken into account together it is reasonable to suggest that the urns offered here were at the very least, inspired by the Medici urnAs for the Medici Vase, it was probably a part of the Medici collection by the late 16th century and within one hundred years or so was one of the most celebrated antiquities in EuropeSee John Davis, p 298 - these are the model illustrated which was a known example available from J P White circa 1906Condition Report: Both urns bear the usual minor knocks and scuffs overall consistent with their age and use. Some larger chips and losses to some extremities. The edge of the rims are chipped in places a little more significantly but not dramatically so. The urns are composed of various, separately carved elements, and there is also further minor chipping where these individual parts meet. There are some areas where weathering has affected the smoothness of the marble leaving a granular surface. Each handle of one urn has a restored crackThe urns have been fully and professionally cleaned, giving them a bright, white hue. Please refer to additional images for visual reference to conditionCondition Report Disclaimer

A Steve Jobs signature-moulded Apple Macintosh 512 M0001 computer.Serial number F42109PM0001P, 329th manufactured during the 21st week of 1984 in Fremont, CAInternal moulding bearing with the signatures of the original 1982 Apple Macintosh design team, to include Steve Jobs, Jerry Manock, Bud Tribble, Jef Raskin, Mike Boich, Rod Holt, Steve Wozniak, Mike Murray etcThe accessories boxes also bear the artwork of Picasso.'Since the Macintosh team were artists, it was only appropriate that we sign our work. Steve came up with the awesome idea of having each team member's signature engraved on the hard tool that molded the plastic case, so our signatures would appear inside the case of every Mac that rolled off the production line. Most customers would never see them, since you needed a special tool to look inside, but we would take pride in knowing that our names were in there, even if no one else knew. We held a special signing party after one of our weekly meetings on February 10, 1982. Jerry Mannock, the manager of the industrial design team, spread out a large piece of drafting paper on the table to capture our signatures. Steve gave a little speech about artists signing their work, and then cake and champagne were served as he called each team member to step forward and sign their name for posterity. Burrell had the symbolic honor of going first, followed by members of the software team. It took forty minutes or so for around thirty-five team members to sign. Steve waited until last, when he picked a spot near the upper center and signed his name with a flourish.' - Andy Hertzfeld, folklore.orgTo include: - Apple printer - Apple mouse - Boxed Apple printer - Boxed Microsoft Multiplan Worksheet Program - Original plastic travel box - Various manuals, floppy discs, branded boxed etc
