Shepard, free endpapers partially toned, top edges gilt, original blue cloth gilt, one or two faint marks and spine ends a trifle rubbed, but generally a bright copy, in later issue dustjacket (advertising Winnie-the-Pooh, 9th edition Fourteen Songs, Teddy Bear and Other Songs, and 2nd edition King's Breakfast, all published 1926), some chipping and fraying to top edge, spine darkened and with 2" facsimile repair at foot, 8vo (1)
Milne (A.A., and Shepard, E.H., illustrator). Six Drawings, Illustrating Poems from 'When We Were Very Young' by A.A. Milne, Methuen, [1926], a complete set of six lithographs, each with a poem surrounded by vignettes, image size 48 x 38cm (19 x 15ins) and smaller, each with pencilled limitation to lower right margin, and with printed title label mounted on verso, one or two minor marginal marks, 'Happiness' with some faint ghosting of outline from print register slipping, 'The King's Breakfast' with some minor edge-curling, interleaved with tissue guards (some edge-fraying), loosely contained as issued in the original portfolio (somewhat soiled and rubbed, with a little wear), with two printed title and imprint labels on the inside, and a tipped-in sheet of title labels for pasting onto the back board of frames, limited edition 72/250 copies Produced only two years after the book from which the poems are taken, and before publication of 'Now We Are Six' and 'The House at Pooh Corner'. The six poems are: 'Vespers'; 'Lines and Squares'; 'Happiness'; 'Teddy Bear'; 'Hoppity'; and 'The King's Breakfast'. An extremely rare suite of broadsides, the set commonly being broken up, framed and dispersed. The only set listed on COPAC is that held at Cambridge University. (1)
Two similar Scottish millefiori paperweights by Perthshire, each with a bed of loose latticino canes, one decorated with thirteen cane groups of varying composition and colour to include silhouette centre examples detailing a standing puffin, polar bear, floral group, a standing cat etc, the centre cane dated 1980 P, 4.5cm tall approximately, the other example also with varying millefiori canes and stars with silhouette examples detailing a standing kangaroo and an elephant, dated 1974 P, the second example also with sticker Perthshire Paperweights to underside, 4cm tall approximately (2)
