A rare 19th century Staffordshire pearlware bear baiting jug and cover, unusually he is modelled as holding his handler within his paws, which is formed as a spout, underglaze polychrome painted, the bear with a brown treacle mottled glaze, height 26.5cm, lid rim restored (see illustration). Condition Report: The back of the lid rim has been broken and crudely restored, possibly with more restoration around the rim as there is a lot of yellow staining to the glaze all around the rim. The ears have had some overpainting to glaze chips to the tips, also to the snout of his nose. His left canine is chipped. The body appears in good condition, there are a few firing cracks, which are viewable from the interior.

DON SOMMER REPRODUCTION STUTZ SUN GOD `RA` MASCOTDon Sommer reproduction 1926 - 1935 Stutz `Ra` car mascot. The sun god was the center of the ancient Egyptian world. Discovery of King Tutankhamun`s tomb in 1922 gave fuel to art deco`s primitivists. No doubt, it inspired designers such as Aurelius M. Renzetti and D. Carlton Brown. Their Ra wears a `Neo-Egyptian` crown instead of the traditional solar disk. The placement of the divine cobra and other features bear striking similarity to Tut`s headdress. The stepped back patterns here convey power, strength and gravity. Measures 4 1/4" height x 4 1/4" width x 5 3/8" length (10.7cm x 10.7cm x 13.6cm). Total weight of 1896 grams.
