Great War Distinguished Conduct Medal Group of Three 17th Battalion Welsh Regiment, Decorated for Gallantry in Carrying Wounded Comrades Under Heavy Fire, consisting of George V Distinguished Conduct Medal (D.C.M) “26892 PTE H HOLMAN 17/WELSH R”, British War and Victory medals “26892 W.O. CL 2 H HOLMAN WELSH R”. The medals remain in generally good condition, each medal has been individually court mounted. The citation for the award of the DCM is as follows, “26892 Pte (A/CSM) H Holman. Conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When a raid had been frustrated by heavy hostile fire, he organised the removal of the wounded, carrying several of them himself under a hail of bullets at short range. He appeared to bear a charmed life, and his gallantry and devotion to duty were most extraordinary. (25.8.17)”

Various annotations to the border and verso of the 12 x 12 artpaper indicate that it was published on page 97 of the annual. About VG
