The intimate portrait is based on a still from the film 'The Village of the Damned', metamorphosed by Tuymans as 'The Valley (of the Doomed)'. The work is charged with the characteristic Tuymans tension: the boy is prematurely aged and tormented. A ‘Happy Diamonds’ pendant and chain by Chopard, the 18ct gold teddy bear with glazed compartment revealing a ‘floating’ diamond, on a belcher-link chain, pendant and chain signed ‘Chopard’, Swiss assay marks, stamped ‘750’, pendant length 30mm, chain length 42cm. £800-£1,000 --- Condition Report Light wear, overall very good condition, gross weight 21.9gm.
A CONTINENTAL WALNUT CENTRE OR SILVER TABLE PROBABLY DUTCH, MID 18TH CENTURY 75cm high, 85cm wide, 49cm deep Condition Report: Marks, scratches and abrasions, old chips and splits comensurate with age and use. Some old losses, some old repairs. Some indentation to the top has been disguised with filler. Original surface. Some natural fading. Careful attention to the colour/ surface could improve the colour further. There is some dark staining. The table is of solid structure. At each end, the drawer handle appears original and match eachother. The engraved detail on it bear wear. The small lock to each drawer is lacking and has been neatly filled with a fillet of timber. The small key-holes have been neatly filled and veneered over to match. Neat old repair to a split in the top with a slender fillet of timber (see additional images) The glued blocks to the underside of the top are possibly later and/or have been re-glued. Some of the 'ears' at the tops of the legs have been re-glued. One leg has an old crack/ fracture and a dowel/ peg joint has been put in to secure it, one other leg has an old closed crack/ split that appears to be secure. Some splitting and division to floors of drawer linings. Some old ink staining to drawer linings.
