Taxidermy: Polar Bear Skin (Ursus maritimus), circa 1960, Povirnituq, Quebec, Canada, a large adult skin rug with head mount, mouth agape, limbs outstretched, backed onto canvas backing material with black serrated felt border, nose to tail 263cm, across the forelimbs 261cm, across the rear limbs 233cm CITES Annex B, Appendix II, (exempt). some discolouration to the fur on the back - also to the back of the head - front left and rear left all claws remain - front right paw only one full claw remains - rear right paw zero claws remain - plastic jaw and tongue set - filler around lower gum line deteriorated - requires some restoration to gum line upper and lower - peri-mortem scar to top of nose. 22/10/20

Silver Hawking Vervel Circa, 17th century. Silver, 0.7 grams. 9mm x 2mm. A D-shaped band, flat on the outer face and inscribed 'Of Dauntesey'. The name could refer to the surname of the Dauntesey family who originally took their name from the manor of Dauntsey, or it could have belonged to a resident of Dauntsey. The village is located in North Wiltshire not far from the ancient town of Malmesbury. Hawking vervels frequently bear the name, place of residence or both of the owner of the hawk. They would have been attached to the leather jesses or thongs on hawks' legs, allowing them to be attached to a block or leash.
Medieval Pilgrims Badge. Circa 15th century AD. Size: 25.48 mm. A copper-alloy open-work pilgrims badge from the shrine at Walsingham in Norfolk, depicting the Annunciation (the Angel Gabriel announcing to Mary she is to bear God's son), with Mary and Gabriel either side of a central branch, Mary with one hand at her breast and the other resting on a book on a column at her feet. Ref: Lewis (2016: 28) The author describes the branch in the centre of the scene as a "lily pot"?. Note: A 15th century stone mould for these badges was found at Little Walsingham.
A VICTORIAN WHITE PAINTED CAST IRON GARDEN BENCH, last quarter 19th century, the outscrolled backrest with scrolling foliate cresting above an openwork register of five interlaced and scrolling strapwork panels, with conforming armrests flanking the slatted seat, on splayed legs to pad feet, height: 89cm, width: 166cm, depth: 72cm. Note: The seat offered here bears strong similarities to an iron bench produced by the John Finch Foundry of Dudley, patented by them in March 1881, but does not appear to bear any identifying stamps. A pair of French lead portrait roundels of Napoleon, 19th century, one with the Emperor in profile, the other a double portrait with Josephine, each inscribed ANDRIEU to the truncation and in stained hardwood frames; 18cm diameter; a Victorian copper medal with Prince Albert and other monarchs in relief, within an elaborate figural border, in ebonised frame, 17cm diameter; and another roundel of NapoleonCondition Report: The roundels have not been inspected out of their frames, so the writer of this report cannot comment on their reverse.The lead roundel of Napoleon has some nicks and dents to the outer edge, and both of these roundels are slightly scratched and scuffed, with some old splits and knocks to frames (which also bear a lacquer-like residue).The copper roundel appears a little bit pitted, and there is some wear to the ebonised frame. A French gilt metal and mesh firescreen in Rococo Revival style, early 20th century, of cartouche form and cast with rocaille overall, raised on twin conforming legs; with two fenders, one with pierced frieze loosely in Gothic style raised on ball feet, the other a wirework and gilt metal spark guardCondition Report: The fire screen is: 71 x 62cmThe larger fender is: 31cm high, 126 wide, 28 deepThe smaller fender is: 27 x 29cm The items in the lot bear the usual minor marks, knocks and scuffs overall consistent with age and use.The mesh in the firescreen is a little bit dirty, but aside from that and some denting it appears intact.Polish residue in the recesses, and some rubbing to the gilding. The small fender has a damage to the top rail, where the metal is slightly bent. This example is also quite tarnished. the other fender has some surface oxidisation to the mesh and bottom rail, but aside from some bending to the wirework appears intact. WW2 U boat, Helmet Friedrich Witte, born 6th April 1915, 23 ships sunk total tonnage 119,554GRT, Captain with Crew 34 U 159 awarded Spanish Cross, Iron Cross and Knights Cross. In July 1941 under Captain Hessler on U 107 Witte took part in the most successful patrol of the war. As Captain of U 159 Witte completed the fourth most successful patrol of the war and was a member of the Eisbar (Polar Bear) Wolfpack off Capetown, a signed wartime reproduction black, white photograph approx 12.5 cm x 18cm from the U boat Commander Series, a Limited Edition of 150 copies so signed with historical information sheet.
