London and Brighton Railway Truncheon. This example, which bears the full title, is decorated in a similar manner to those of the London and Birmingham truncheons except it is the arms of London and Brighton. It is found encircled by a garter belt with the name within. They are 18 1/2 inches long and are also from the firm Parker and stamped ‘PARKER HOLBORN’ in the handle. These pieces bear the date 1837 at the bottom of the garter belt signifying the date the company was incorporated. The London & Brighton Railway part opened between Norwood Junction and Brighton in May 1840 and amalgamated with the London & Croydon Railway to form the LBSCR in July 1846.
