D`Arbez Macht En Recht - Een Verhaal Uit Den Traansvaalschen Vrijheidsoorlog Van 1880-1881 8vo Two volume set from the Zuid-Afrikaansche Historie-Bibliotheek, recounting stories of farming pioneers and traders around the time of the first Boer War, 194 and 169pp. respectively. Condition: red pictorial boards very good, vol.2 being brighter than vol.1, the latter suffering some damp staining to both front and rear, text blocks of both very good (sunned due to age), end-papers in very good condition, vol.1 cracked at pp.96/7. All 500 copies bear this pencil signature on Plate one and each signature is slightly different.There are 22 plates in total and 43 pagesCONDITION DETAILS: The inside flaps of the dust jacket are glued to the inner stiff paper wrappers, but are other wise loose. The spine of the dust jacket is loose and torn. The are several pages that have browning. There is a small cut, which is visible on the image provided of the Irma Stern drawing, which affects several pages. This cut is small - about 3mm in length. Sixteen blue and white transfer-printed Plates, including Spode: 'Sarcophagi', 'Sepulchres at the Head of the Harbour at Cacamo', 'View in Alicarter', 'Neptune', 'Death of the Bear', 'Tiber', 'Ponte Rosso' and 'India' patterns, largest 24.5cm (16) CONDITION REPORT: Neptune pattern - cracked/stained. Sarcophagi - Cacamo - restored to the rim in four placed. Death of Bear - restored, chip at 3 o'clock. Spode Italian - crazed. Ancient Greece - mishapen and restored chip to rim. Castle pattern - cracked/two rim chips. Herculaneum - rim flakes.
