HARDY THOMAS: (1840-1928) English Novelist. Rare A.Q.S., Thomas Hardy, one page, 8vo, Max Gate, Dorchester, February 1890. In his typically neat hand Hardy has boldly penned, in black ink, a three line quotation inspired by his novel The Woodlanders (1887), in full, `Every object in nature seems to bear evidence of an unfulfilled intention.` Signed and dated at the conclusion. A Louis Vuitton cabin trunk 1920s, covered in the famous LV monogrammed fabric with remnants of original travel labels including Cunard White Star, with `LV` tooled leather edging, wooden lid banding, and brass corners, catches and lock, the fabric lined interior with Louis Vuitton branded webbing inside the lid and original orange & gilt paper label, no. `792218`, lacks inner tray, complete with the rare and original canvas and leather outer case, the sides with stencilled lettering, `RWH`, 32 x 18.5 x 14in. (81 x 47 x 35.5cm.) * This trunk was originally owned by Robert Hathaway, second husband of Dame Sibyl Hathaway, and was probably purchased in New York. The sides of the outer case bear his initials, `R.W.H.`.

Lloyd Bagot at Fort George to George Armstrong at Ballycumber "pride poverty and uncleanliness the inseparable companions of the Caledonian nation abound here..."; possible transfer of the regiment to Ireland money owed and a letter to his uncle re: land improvements; (4) letter from T. St. G. Armstrong from Garry Castle 18th October 1827; and other letters including: a letter from Boyle Travers in Dublin 1796 "we are all in great consternation here about the French but so various are the accounts that there is no ascertaining more of them than that they are off the Irish shore.
