World War Two Battle of Monte Cassino 1944 card signed by Wojciech Narebski 22nd Artillery Supply Company. When Wojciech Narebski was called to see his new commanding officer in what was the British mandate of Palestine in October 1942 he was in for a big surprise. I was very astonished because in front of his tent was lying a bear, Mr Narebski says, thinking back nearly seven decades. Thus began a near three-year friendship between Wojtek the bear and the then 17-year-old Polish soldier. Good condition Est.

Two Norway stamps and a Gjenerobringen 1940 8500 Narvik May 1990 postmark. Royal Air Force Kinloss July 1990 postmark on back. Flown in Nimrod MR 2, XV 243, of No 201 Squadron from Royal Air Force, Kinloss to Jan Mayen, Spitzbergen, Bear Island, Narvik and over the waters through which the Allied Evacuation of Norway took place. Pair of Chinese famille rose porcelain cups from the Republic Period decorated with the “Precocious Chicken Boy†with chickens and a poem by the Qianlong emperor. Cups bear apocryphal Qianlong fanggu mark. A very similar and possibly matching cup, part of the Sir Percival David Foundation for Chinese Art, is displayed at the British Museum: http://www.britishmuseum.org/research/collection_online/collection_object_details.aspx?objectId=3180958&partId=1&people=162439&page=16&&sortBy=fromDateDesc. These cups were acquired in Japan by Alroy Piepgras, a Northwest Airlines employee who lived in Japan between 1946 and 1952 as part of a project to set up post-WWII air routes for the US army to locations throughout Southeast Asia. During his six year stay, Piepgras and his family acquired a modest collection of Chinese porcelain and other object. Piepgras passed away in 2002, and his wife Helen in 2014, at which point their children inherited their collection.Dimensions: Height: 2 3/4 in x diameter: 3 1/4 in. Condition: Perfect condition with no chips, cracks or restorations.
