Frontis. and first four plates bear Chapman and Hall imprint at foot. idem. The Cricket on the Heart. Bradbury and Evans, 1846. 8vo, org. red decorative cloth, frontis. and additional title, illus. to text as called for. Second state advertisements with ''New Edition of Oliver Twist'' and 11 lines of copy (''No. I. of'' on separate line). with three others.Nickleby binding rubbed and bumped with short split upper joint at head of spine, slight loss corner of list of plates, plates spotted as not uncommon but very good. Cricket with slight loss head and foot of spine else very good.

The 1990/91 red bear being a replica of a 1908 bear sent to a big department store in London which later belonged to Princess Xenia Georgievna, second cousin of Tsar Nicholas 11 (probably given to her by her father, George Michailovich, Grand Duke of Russia): made of red mohair plush, wool-felt paws/foot pads, dressed as a cossack and with growler, in original box together with certificate of authenticity and white tag/button to ear showing no 4589/5000 (EAN 406195), approx 33 cms.

DERBY EARL OF: (1799-1869) British Prime Minister 1852, 1858-59, 1866-68. A.L.S., Derby, two pages, 8vo, Downing Street, 4th December 1866, to the Earl of Denbigh, marked Private. The Prime Minister acknowledges receipt of his correspondent’s letter and remarks that he will ‘bear in mind your recommendation of the case of Mrs. Hartle for Royal Bounty’ although adds ‘The fund however is just at present very low, and I am obliged for a time to stop all disbursements, and there are, I am sorry to say, many cases more immediately urgent than that of Mrs. Hartle’ and in concluding notes that the lady has already received nearly £350 from the fund as well as having been granted £50 from the War Office. With blank integral leaf (some traces of former mounting to the verso). About VG Rudolph Feilding (1823-1892) 8th Earl of Denbigh. British Peer, a noted Roman Catholic convert who took an active role in many Catholic works of charity under Cardinal Wiseman. The Royal Bounty Fund was established by Edmund Burke in 1782. Shrouded in secrecy, grants, gifts and pensions were paid out of the fund under the patronage of the Prime Minister and no accounts were ever published. The fund was wound down in 2002.
[HIMMLER HEINRICH]: (1900-1945) Nazi German Politician, Reichsfuhrer of the Schutzstaffel (SS) 1929-45. An original printed telegram (received copy) from Heinrich Himmler, one page, oblong 8vo, Berlin, 16th March 1938, to Frau Trude Buerkner (Trude Mohr), in German. The partially printed Deutsche Reichspost form bears a message from Himmler sending congratulations to Buerkner on the birth of her son. Together with a second original printed telegram (received copy) from Inge Wolff, presumably a relative of Karl Wolff, Chief of Staff to Himmler, one page, oblong 8vo, Berlin, 15th March 1938, also to Frau Buerkner (Trude Mohr), in German. The partially printed Deutsche Reichspost form bears a message from Wolff, also sending congratulations on the birth of a son. Both telegrams bear various official stamps and a few indelible pencil annotations and have two file holes to the left edges, not affecting the text. Some very light, extremely minor age wear, VG, 2 Trude Mohr (1902-1989) German Member of the NSDAP, the first Reichsreferentin of the Bund Deutscher Madel (BDM - The League of German Girls), appointed in June 1934 after her female arm of the Hitler Youth, based in the Brandenburg district of Germany, had grown to become the second largest group in the country under her leadership. At the end of World War II Mohr was captured and imprisoned by the British.
**REOFFER ETWALL JAN £40/£60**A Waltham silver pocket watch, having white enamel Roman numeral dial with subsidiary seconds dial, the engine turned silver case by Dennison Watch Case Co, assayed Birmingham 1944, in working order, together with a silver Swiss pocket watch, key wind movement, also having white enamel Roman numeral dial with subsidiary seconds dial (lacking seconds hand), case interior impressed Swiss three standing bear marks and "0,935", watch not working, lacking key, to white metal curb link chain. Mid 19th century Naive English School, a study of George Battes (17th Regt. Royal Tiger) and Mary Bates standing at the waters edge, he in military dress with three masted ship beyond, watercolour, to the lower margin an inscription "George Battes 17th Regt. Royal Tiger....When this you see remember me and bear me me in your mind. Pray look at this and think of me when I am in a souring climb.", 23 cm x 18cm.
