Piatkowski, Cracow 18..6, 12 loth (.750 standard), the cover inset with an ivory plaque carved in relief with a bear standing on all fours in a wood, an applied armorial to his flank, with a cabochon garnet thumb piece and engraved sides and base, 8.2cm (3.25in) wide. The arms not traced. Cracow was occupied by the Austrian Empire in 1846 and remained under their control until 1918.

Rifle Brigade Victorian Officer’s pouch belt plate circa 1863-76. A good scarce die-cast unmarked silver example. Laurel wreath surmounted by a Guelphic crown resting on a tablet inscribed ‘Waterloo’; within the wreath, a Maltese cross with lions between the arms and balls to the tips. To the centre of the cross, within a circlet inscribed ‘Rifle Brigade’, a crowned strung bugle. The arms of the cross bear the numerous honours of the Regiment; the wreath bears applied honours, to the left ‘Sevas’ ‘topol’; the right ‘Alma’ ‘Inkerman’. Between the bottom arm of the cross and the wreath, a scroll inscribed ‘Peninsula’ with another above ‘Lucknow’; across the base of the wreath, an applied scroll ‘The Prince Consort’s Own’. Four screw posts to reverse, retaining replacement backing plate. Highpoints polished. Title ‘The Prince Consort’s Own’ granted in 1862.

A little wear to central highpoints, crown reaffixed with bar behind Waterloo otherwise generally VGC.

Three loops to reverse and complete with original velvet backing cloth. VGC (KK 284)
