ANDY WARHOL (Pittsburgh, USA,1928-New York, USA,1987)."Box of Glitter".Cardboard, mounted on passe-partout.With stamp of the Levi Gallery (Milan).Size: 18 x 20 x 6,5 cm; 30 x 30 (passe-partout).Glossy box conceived by the artist for the first time in 1964, it was the work for which the art critic Arthur Danto declared the death of art. In his explanation, he stated that through these detergent boxes, the artist had conquered reality by making everyday objects into art. In reality, Warhol was exploring a path already opened by Duchamp in 1917, but which in this case alluded to a mass culture, marked by capitalism and strong industrialisation.Andrew Warhola, commonly known as Andy Warhol, was an American visual artist, filmmaker and music producer who played a crucial role in the birth and development of pop art. Considered in his time a guru of modernity, Warhol was one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. The son of Slovakian immigrants, he began studying art at the Carnegie Institute of Technology between 1945 and 1949. In the latter year, when he settled in New York, he began his career as an advertising cartoonist for various magazines such as Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Seventeen and The New Yorker. At the same time he painted canvases whose subject matter was based on some element or image from the everyday environment, advertising or comics. He soon began to exhibit in various galleries. He progressively eliminated any expressionist traits from his works until he reduced them to a serial repetition of a popular element from mass culture, the world of consumerism or the media. This evolution reached its peak of depersonalisation in 1962, when he began to use a mechanical silkscreen printing process as his working method, by means of which he systematically reproduced myths of contemporary society, the most representative examples of which are the series dedicated to Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, Elizabeth Taylor and Mao Tse-tung, as well as his famous treatment of Campbell's soup cans, all works produced during the fruitful decade of the 1960s. This appropriationism, a constant in the work of the proponents of Pop Art, extended to universal works of art. By means of mass reproduction, he succeeded in stripping the media fetishes he used of their usual referents, turning them into stereotyped icons with a purely decorative purpose, and in 1963 he set up the Factory, a workshop in which numerous figures from New York's underground culture gathered around him. The frivolity and extravagance that marked his way of life eventually established a coherent line between his work and his life. He is currently represented in the most important contemporary art museums in the world, such as the MoMA, the Metropolitan and the Guggenheim in New York, the Fukoka Museum in Japan, the Kunstmuseum in Basel, the National Museum of 21st Century Art in Rome, the MUMOK in Vienna, the SMAK in Ghent and the Tate Gallery in London, as well as in the museums that bear his name in Pittsburgh and Medzilaborce (Slovakia).

Fast komplette Folge des satirischen Wochenblatts, es fehlt einzig Nr. 167 (7. Jan. 1871). L'Éclipse erschien von Januar 1868 bis Juni 1876 und wurde hauptsächlich von André Gill illustriert. Zahlreiche Ausgaben der Zeitung wurden von der Zensur verboten, oft im letzten Moment, so dass in aller Eile eine neue Karikatur verfasst werden musste. Die rekonstruierten Exemplare tragen in der Regel die Nummer der Ausgabe, gefolgt von dem Zusatz "b" oder "bis". Unsere Sammlung enthält zusätzlich zu den regulären Ausgaben ca. 30 dieser "bis"-Nummern. - Teils mit geglättetem Mittelfalz. Papierbedingt etwas gebräunt und teils mit Gebrauchsspuren. Einige wenige etwas fleckig und mit kl. Fehlstellen. France - Issues 1-166 and 168-400 in 2 vols. With numerous mostly col. illustrations. Folio. Cont. half cltoh (rubbed and bumped). - With numerous caricatures by André Gill, Alfred Le Petit, etc. Almost complete set of the satirical weekly. No. 167 (7 Jan. 1871) is missing. L'Éclipse was published from January 1868 to June 1876 and was mainly illustrated by André Gill. Numerous issues of the newspaper were banned by the censors, often at the last moment, so that a new caricature had to be created in a hurry. The reconstructed copies usually bear the number of the issue followed by the suffix "b" or "bis". Our collection contains about 30 of these "bis" numbers in addition to the regular issues. - Partly with smoothed centrefold. Paper somewhat browned and partly with traces of use. A few somewhat stained and with small missing parts.

Vicktorine Hofer. Arbeitsbuch (Deckeltitel). Reich illustriertes Stickerei-Manuskript mit 45 teils kolorierten Original-Zeichnungen. Österreich, um 1880. Gr.-8°. Blindgepr. Lwd. d. Zt. mit goldgepr. DTitel, Glanzpapier-Vorsätze (etwas berieben, minimal fleckig). Prachtvolles Manuskript-Arbeitsbuch zum Sticken, Klöppeln und Stricken aus der Gründerzeit, mit aufwendigen, teils kolorierten Zeichnungen von höchster Präzision. Es gibt einen detaillierten Einblick in die Techniken und Materialien, die Ästhetik und die Medien der kunsthandwerklichen Stickerei, Klöppelei und Strickerei sowie deren Verbreitung in der zweiten Hälfte des 19. Jh. Im Biedermeier war die Handarbeit als Freizeitbeschäftigung nicht länger ein Privileg aristokratischer Frauen, sondern gewann auch in bürgerlichen Kreisen an Bedeutung. Dabei entstanden zahlreiche aufwendig gearbeiteter Exemplare, oft mit floralen oder geometrischen Motiven sowie aufwändig gezeichnete handschriftliche Arbeitsbücher wie das hier vorliegende. Neben einfachen Techniken (Holbeintechnik, Wiener Kreuzstich) werden auch kompliziertere, mehrfarbige Motive (arabische Technik, Reticella, venezianisch) erläutert. Die begleitenden Texte mit Erklärungen und Legenden sind in schönem Kurrent geschrieben. Die zum Teil kolorierten Bleistift- und Tuschezeichnungen tragen Vermerke wie "sehr gut", "vorzüglich" oder "ausgezeichnet", geschrieben in schöner kalligraphischer Schrift von zweiter Hand mit verschiedenfarbiger Tinte, vermutlich von einem Lehrer. - Papierbedingt zart gebräunt. Sehr gut erhalten. Richly illustrated embroidery manuscript with 45 partly coloured original drawings. Austria, c. 1880. Blind-tooled cont. cloth with gilt cover title, glossy endpapers (somewhat rubbed, minimally spotted). - Splendid manuscript workbook on embroidery, lace making and knitting from the Gründerzeit, with elaborate, partly coloured drawings of highest precision. It gives a detailed insight into the techniques and materials, the aesthetics and the media of handicraft embroidery and its dissemination in the second half of the 19th century. In the Biedermeier period, needlework as a leisure activity was no longer a privilege of aristocratic women, but also gained in importance in bourgeois circles.This resulted in numerous elaborately worked examples, often with floral or geometric motifs, as well as elaborately drawn manuscript workbooks such as the one presented here. In addition to simple techniques (Holbein technique, Viennese cross stitch), more complicated, multi-coloured motifs (Arabic technique, Reticella, Venetian) are explained. The accompanying texts with explanations and legends are written in beautiful cursive. The partly coloured pencil and ink drawings bear annotations such as "very good", "excellent" or "superb", written in beautiful calligraphic script by a second hand with different coloured ink, probably by a teacher. - Paper a little bit brownish. Very well preserved.

Aus der Sammlung des bedeutenden Zoologen Oskar Heinroth (verso gestempelt). - Der Künstler Heims unternahm in größeren Expeditionsgruppen mehrmonatige Forschungsreisen u. a. in Westen Afrikas, um Zeichnungen aller Art anzufertigen. Insbesondere seine detaillgetreuen Darstellungen von Tieren brachten ihm Bekanntheit. - Sehr schöner Zustand, die Farben leuchtend. Zoology - Ice bear on ice floe. Watercolor on paper, partly heightened with white. Signed and dated. Decoratively framed under glass, unopened (the frame with small defects). - From the collection of the important zoologist Oskar Heinroth (stamped on verso) - The artist Heims undertook research trips of several months in larger expedition groups, especially to Africa, to elaborate drawings of all kinds. Especially his detailed depictions of animals brought him fame. - Very fine condition, the colors bright.

Art Déco - - Sammlung von 80 Original-Entwürfen überwiegend für Art Déco und Jugendstil Mobiliar. Um 1905-1928. Verschiedene Techniken, überwiegend Feder, Graphit und Aquarelle. Blattmaße von ca. 27 x 17 cm bis 66 x 50 cm. Der Großteil der kunstvollen und meist farbprächtigen Entwürfe stammt von Alfred Kemnitz aus den Jahren 1927-28. Einige wenige tragen den Stempel der Berliner Tischlerschule. Desweiteren signierte Blätter von Karl Balz und H. Schrichting. Die Sammlung umfasst neben Ansichten komplett eingerichteter Räume einige Entwürfe u.a. für Ladentüren, Schlafzimmermobiliar, Regale, kunstvolle Schränke, Standuhren und Stühle. Oftmals mit Grundrissen und Maßstabsangaben. Neben den Entwürfen auch einige Studienblätter mit geometrischen Skizzen und Zeichnungen von Mobiliar aus früheren Jahrhunderten. - Teils mit Mittelfalz. Papierbedingt etwas gebräunt. Einige wenige mit Randläsuren und kl. Anschmutzungen. Insgesamt gut erhalten und farbleuchtend. Collection of 80 original designs mostly for Art Deco and Art Nouveau furniture. Various techniques, mainly pen and ink, graphite and watercolours. - The majority of the artistic and mostly colourful designs are by Alfred Kemnitz from the years 1927-28. A few bear the stamp of the Berlin School of Carpentry. Furthermore, there are signed sheets by Karl Balz and H. Schrichting. In addition to views of completely furnished rooms, the collection includes several designs for shop doors, bedroom furniture, shelves, ornate cabinets, grandfather clocks and chairs, among others. Often with floor plans and scales. Besides the designs also some study sheets with geometrical sketches and drawings of furniture from earlier centuries. - Partly with centrefold. Paper somewhat browned. A few with marginal tears and small soiling. Altogether well preserved and brightly coloured.
